brake fluid level after new pads?

I recently changed out my brake pads. The brake fluid level was at the max line before I changes them, now it's above the line. Is this normal? Is it because with new thicker pads the pistions are pushed in more or is there air in the system? The brakes work fine

Did you ever add fluid in between pad changes?

It is normal as you compress the pistons in the caliper to install new pads the fluid has to go somewere.

yeh, that's why some folks tell you to remove the reservoire lid
before changing pads to relieve the pressure that gets built up
inside the bottle.

im going to be changing my pads next summer and expecting to
suction out some fluid during/after the change cause it's at
the max line right now and my pads are about 50% done.

New Pads....?

This is perfectly normal, it's caused by compessing the calipers. Don't remove
any it should return to the full line within a few miles and stops!

thanks guys! That's what I thinking, just didn't want to have air in the system. I'll bleed the brakes this coming up summer

...you changed pads;
Have you changed the fluid recently?

Rather than just bleeding it's good to flush it with new.
