Seems to be just OEM 75w-85 fluid. I don't think they would swap to something different on a swap.

I've had the new trans for a couple weeks now and it was still making the noise. Definitely not as loud as before but still there for an extended time until the fluid gets in the gears I guess. It started to annoy me that I couldn't figure it out so I went and picked up the differential lube that the dealer here uses - BG Ultra-Guard 75w90. I've heard both ways about the ls additive and 3 techs on diff occasions at the dealer said they used it in the coupes so I also got that.

It's colder out than normal and I let it sit for hours after the fluid change. Test drive.....NOISE GONE!!! Damn it's a good feeling too, I hope it's gone for good.

My theory - I know amsoil is the **** but it may take extra time than oem fluids to get into either the trans gears or the differential gears or both, which generated the noise I think in my case. I originally had amsoil in both my trans and diff. Had the trans swapped (with oem fluid) and the noise was still there but MUCH quieter. Changed the diff fluid back and the noise seems to have gone away completely. Hope this info helps somebody. Don't blame me if it doesn't work for you haha This issue is all over the place it seems.

I had my 6MT serviced at the Nissan dealer several months ago. The receipt said 75w90 was used in the flush, but I do not know what brand was used. What do you think they used?

How much was the BG Ultra-Guard?

Had to get it from the dealer because the Midas by me didn't stock it. They called their BG dealer and he couldn't find any around. Cost me $49 for 2 bottles and the additive but i gaurantee you can get it cheaper. I didn't want to use all the daylight running around town.

Found the BG website. You used the LS II additive? It says on their site that it's an additive to prevent chatter in clutch-type lsds. I imagine it prolly couldn't hurt it though. I'm willing to try anything. So you could use this bg stuff in both the granny and the diff? You said you've got OEM fluid in the tranny, anyone know who makes the oem fluid?

Yep LSII. I can call the dealer tomorrow and see what they use for the trans in-shop and also what it comes with from the factory (if it's different).

So you filled the transmission with the BG Ultra-Guard and added the LSII as well?

No, only the differential. I haven't touched the trans fluid since they replaced it under warranty a couple weeks ago.

Ok update on mine, after a third trip to the dealership for this whine issue, theyre replacing my tranny. They tried to sucker me into a new clutch, flywheel, throwout bearing and pilot bearing for 900 making it sound like they wouldnt replace the tranny otherwise. One call to corporate solved that issue. I asked the service advisor what went bad on the tranny and she just said that the tech said its a bad tranny...

^ that's a big part of what's making this hard to track down. techs don't actually know what's going wrong, they just start pulling parts and replacing them until the noise goes away. if i were nissan, i'd want to be pulling these trannies back to corporate and figuring out whether they could be doing something other than replacing full trannies left and right.

i'll hopefully be doing the fluid swap this weekend. if that doesn't pan out, i'll start documenting it up north next weekend. is there a handy DIYfor tranny and diff fluid change on here somewhere? im almost positive there is, but i'm at work and cant search.

Dubel: please let us know whether you get that info back from the dealer on what oil is in your tranny so i can grab some when i'm out.

strada: everything still cool? still no noise? any chance you could find out from the dealer what fluid is in your new tranny?

DIY Video Series from bythebay: https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sed...eo-series.html

My dealer said it was Matic J or D Nissan Fluid from the factory. When they do the transmission fluid in-shop they use the BG Synchro-Shift with no additional additives.
*DEALER WAS WRONG ON MATIC J OR D FOR 6MT - DO NOT USE*

I think you are confused between automatic and manual transmissions. The 5AT models use either matic j,s, or d, depending on which infiniti model. The manual transmission models all require a GL4 gear oil in the transmission as far as I am aware.
