Review: Brake mods incl Stillen brake master cylinder brace

Not sure if this has been reviewed but I thought I would contribute. I recently acquired a low mileage 04 G35 coupe 5AT. The brakes (non-Brembo) stopped well but lacked feel and modulation. The brakes on my 05 Civic had better feel and a firmer pedal. Unacceptable for a G35.
My 1st mod: Agency Power stainless steel brake lines and a brake fluid flush. The lines helped a little. But the brake feel was still mush. Next mod was new slotted rotors from Rotorpros and Hawk HPS pads. The braking modulation improved tremendously since the OEM pads are just TOO grabby. Just too much initial bite to effectively modulate the brakes. The Hawk HPS pads stop as well but are more linear in feel. Not on/off like OEM. But the pedal was still mush.
My last mod: Stillen master brake cylinder brace. Apparently the master cylinder really flexes at the firewall. The Stillen brace presses against the master cylinder from the strut tower mount. You have to drill a 1.5" hole in the panel between the strut tower and the master cylinder. Not hard. I used a hole saw drill bit. The brace bolts on and the result is amazing. The brake pedal is now FIRM and progressive. Almost as good as the Brembos on my Evo. I absolutely recommend this mod.

I was going to do this mods earlier because I saw a used one for sale on eBay. But then I changed my mind after I had my cousin slammed on the brake paddle really hard a few times and seeing no movement in brake master cylinder.

Thanks for the review. I had tried a master cylinder brace on my last car, a '92 Nissan 300ZX, and could detect no noticeable difference in feel or braking. If you're considering this mod, you would do well to first have a friend hit the brake pedal hard while you watch the master cylinder to see if there is any flex.

thanks for the review..I ordered mine today but I also have a BBK installed on my car....6 piston front and 4 piston rear with 14mm rotors and 13.5mm rotors...hopefully this will aide in breaking power as well.

Sorry to bring this thread back after a year but g35man04, how is the brace working for you?

Where did you buy the brace? Directly from Stillen?
