Brake fluid

Any specific fluid anybody would recommend? Would regular fluid from the autoparts store work?

if your just daily driving your car, anything is good .. i try to pass up on auto part store products, most are so so .. if you want some good stuff, look into Motul, heard good things, but with good things comes the price

i work at a BMW dealership so i just use their stuff =/

If you are driving/braking hard then go for some synthetic DOT 4 fluid. DO NOT USE DOT 5!!!! If you drive normal then go with plain DOT 4. If you track the car then ATE, MOTUL, or other high temp fluid is a necessity.

Regular DOT 3 is fine for daily driving. DOT 4 is needed if you track or autox, but you'll have to change it more often than DOT 3.

As far as DOT4, I think ATE Typ 200 is the best bang for the buck...you can find it for ~12 per liter. Pentosyn RBF is in the same ballpark too. Unless you track the car Motul RBF is complete overkill as it's triple the price of ATE.

Here's an excellent read on brake fluid: http://www.stoptech.com/tech_info/wp...fluid_1a.shtml Scroll to the bottom for a comparison of fluids.

Valvoline synthetic dot 3/4. You can find it at any store and it's a very decent brake fluid for the price and availability. Exotic stuff has to be changed quite often in order to maintain it's high boiling points.

The higher the DRY boiling point the FASTER the brake fluid absorbs moisture and get saturated to the 3% wet boiling point.

Ultra High Racing fluids are designed to be flushed after every race.

OEM use DOT3 because they know owners are not educated so the fluid lasts thru the 60k 4 year warranty before becoming dangerously water compomised!!!!!!!!

If you ever boil brake fluid change it immediately because the boiling changes the chemistry of fluid allowing very rapid water absorbtion and easier and easier and easier boiling subsequently.

Valvoline syntech is priced right and can last 2-3 years depending on driver.

I've heard good things about the Motul Dot4 myself. I'm debating upgrading from my factory lines to stainless steel ones, but I'm not sure of the braking performance
