Brakes Posi Quiet vs. Hawk HPS for OCAutosports rotors

Hi all,
I searched didn't see direct compassion.

My pads need changing very soon. I think I have the Posi Quiet Semi-Metallic (assuming that since I bought the set with the rotors from OCAutosports and don't have a record anywhere).
The current pads are pretty good when warmed up. The cold performance in the morning can be scary at times.

Has anyone had experience with both Posi Quiet and Hawk HPS on OCAutosports rotors?

Also, any helpful comments are welcome.

My car is a 2003 G35Coupe non-Brembo.

Hawk HPS won't help you in the cold bite performance department - I was not a fan of them in my prior car ('92 Nissan 300ZX). For cold stops, OEM is, unfortunately, your best bet. Though I have read (on Tire Rack reviews) that Satisfied OEM pads are pretty good, and a good value for the money.

But the rotors I have are cross drilled and slotted. Won't these eat the pads very quick?

I can't say for sure as I've not had slotted rotors (I've had cross-drilled and never noticed increased wear because of it) but I don't see why they would eat one set of pads more quickly than another. Regardless, if cold bite is your priority, Hawk HPS ain't the way to go.

From what I read, the Project mU might be the only company that offers a decent alternative to the oem pad. Or just go OEM, enjoy the world class braking and wax your wheels!

I had same rotor as you OP - and Hawk HPS pads... didn’t like the pads and I have no idea why people rave about them. They make too much noise and don’t brake well at all... not during spirited street driving or track. I wouldn’t recommend them.

BTW - if you haven’t bought your rotors yet, I'm selling mine - just upgraded to Akebono (love those OEM pads btw - street use only so far).

I have the POSI QUIET semi metallic on with my brembos right now, kinda threw them on cause im just commuting in my car lately and needed to new pads after my AXXISS ceramics were worn through.

The Axxis pads were better than OEM Brembo pads, but super high dust...known from ceramic pads.

POSI-QUIETS- Terrible initial bite, and decreased braking power, less feeling as well. They dont bother me for right now, but can definetly tell a difference.

I have slotted rotor BTW.

BUY FROM ROTOR WORKS IN GARDEN GROVE, CA. I only buy brake stuff from them, , cause there prices are the cheapest ever found anywhere on the net or in person. POSI-quiets were 76 bucks, front and back from them lol

Thanks everyone. Looks like there is no good choice of pads for Gs other than OEM. I am thinking for going back to OEMs now Unless someone convinces me otherwise.

I used to run Akebono ceramic pads before i switched to HPS pads. The akebono's had great stopping power and were very quiet compared to the HPS pads. I have noticed that after the HPS pads are warmed up, they do stop great. its when the pads are cold that they underperformed. They both have little to no brake dust.

It's hard to believe that there isn't a good solution that is maybe middle ground between OEM and HPS/Posi Quiet

Some people like Project Mu and I have read a postive street-oriented review for Satisfied OEM pads on Tire Rack, but in general, keep in mind that brake pads are a compromise.

I understand about the compromise. It just seems like there is no solution that is inbetween the stock and the others.

For those who wanted to know what I ended up doing:

- I went ahead and changed the back pads to OEM! This seems to be very good compromise. The cold stop has improved significantly and I still have that no fading under harsh breaking. The stopping distance has also improved.

I would recommend doing this!

OEM pads offer very good braking - however it also introduces much more dusting...

I loved the way they performed - but hated cleaning the wheels every 2 days (when I drove the car daily)...
