brake pads and tires... which ones?

hey guys... just wanted to know what brake pads to get for the front. I need to replace them and bought the car in July. I wanted to get hawk hps pads since I hear OEM sucks *****. However, I heard the hawk hps pads break in the winter.
I also need some winter tires, is used ones any good if tread is still good? cause i dont want to spend like 500-700 on new ones. Any good quality winter tire brands for our cars RWD should be difficult in the winter.

Thanks...

I really like axxis pads, check them out. Very little dust, good bite and durability.

OEM pads are actually very good. They just dust like crazy... I've used Hawk HPS and OEM - and the OEM function way better - but the Hawk dust less... since you are looking for a winter setup and being in Canada, I doubt you care about dust... so I would suggest OEM.

I live in So Cal, so would be of no use recommending "winter" tires.

03/04 OEM pads are good but they also don't last long and eat rotors for lunch. If you have an 05/06 you are better off since you have the larger brakes.

Like Mike said, the Hawk HPS pads are not quite as good as the oem. The last longer and are a bit more fade resistant but for normal cold weather driving the oem pads are better.
