The 06 Z rotors weigh about 20lbs. Stock 03 rotor weigh about 15 lbs. If you go akebono, you are adding 10-15 lbs per front wheel. Way too much for me.

 

the akebono's clear 18's,and are much heavier,but most of the weight gained imo was in the caliper since it is quite larger than stock

 

Do you track the car? The OEM setup is extremely good for daily driving and auto-x. About the only place it doesn't perform really well is on a road course. Most every aftermarket brake setup is going to result in worse 70-0 stopping. Keep that in mind.

The reason you need new pads is because the rotors are worn out. When you replace rotors, you need new pads.

 

Probably won't clear the older sedan 18s. The 05/06+ oem brakes will.

And no, most of the weight is definately gained in the rotors. non-brembo/akebono = cast iron calipers. brembo/akebono = forged aluminum calipers.

 

thanks guy for the help. since i dont drive the car much imma just sit on it for a while and debate what i want to do. BBK sounds nice but the cost is way to high! and like daveb said the oem setup is really good. on the other hand i let my brother in law drive my car and he said the brakes are really good as well. so idk ha

 

in terms of braking distance betweena 03-04 sedan VS a 05-06 sedan. i think the 03-04 just edges out by a VERY small distance. They are a amazing setup. I just dont think the 05-06 setup is worth $500-800, your paying for a less dust really and slighly bigger rotors and twin piston front caliper. Only to either gain or loose a couple of inches or feet in braking distance.

yea i know someone is going to say a couple of inches can mean stoping in time VS tapping someone's bumper.

I honestly would stick with the brakes and just get new pads and rotors, you worry about dusting then wipe down the wheels more often.

 

the early/later non oem brake dist is virtually the same. But the later years use a less aggressive pad, has better mass for heat dissipation and the rotors last much longer.

With the older rotors getting used up in less than 30k sometimes, the later upgrade starts to look very promising.

I'm very happy with my upgrade. I did everything including ss lines for about $550 and that included shipping. Price new rotors and pads twice and see where you are. You also have to figure in the tons of black dust that the older pads put out. On my coupe 19s, that's a nightmare.

You can go 15" 12 piston. They work and have lasted me a long time on the same set of pads.

 

I guess i wont be doing a BBK as of now. Im most likely going to stick with OEM or Hawk pads depending, but i just need to find some rotors for the front and might just change the back as well. What would be some good rotors with the oem brakes? I want to get either blank or slotted rotors. Whats better slotted or blank? From what i seen i got few options i can consider.

Option 2: Stoptech Slotted rotors and Oem or Hawk Pads.

Option 3: Brembo Blank rotors and Oem Pads
