when lowering...

hi all, so i have hopefully a few simple questions for those of you who have lowered their car. i essentially want to get 18s, and was thinking of the Z drop. but i have seen other springs like this for example. its the g37 sport coupe suspension.
http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/pts/1637000674.html
how much of a drop difference would that be? from the Z to the coupe drop.. would i have to look into purchasing anything else when i drop it? would Coils be needed? any advice is greatly appreciated.

Get tein h techs if you want a moderate drop, nothing is needed except alignment. Coils if you wanna be slammed and adjust the height to your liking

go to the TECH section, suspension area. that's your best resource for technical assistance related to suspensions.

Z springs are going to drop you an inch. And then just get an alignment. Coupe springs will drop you half inch

with Z springs, is it recommended to replace the shocks on non-sport g's?

I'm going w/ Tanabe DF springs and Tokiko struts for the G Coupe since I believe they would be better suited to support the Sedan's new posture.

I think what you are asking is how much Z or G springs will drop a Sedan. If so, see below:

1. Coupe springs will drop a SEDAN by about 1/2" in more than advertised for a coupe.
2. The Z springs will drop a coupe about 1/2" more than advertised for a Z.
3. The Z springs will drop a SEDAN about 1" more than advertised for a Z.

NOTE: By the sub-forum you posted in, I assume you own a V35 Sedan. You will want to look at 350Z/G35 coupe springs. IIRC, the springs will be different on a V36(G37) or Z34 (370Z) chasis.

ok, so end result, Z springs end up giving more of a drop from what i just read in another forum.
my final question would be. when i get my 18s (will be oem more than likely) will the drop be enough with current shocks, or would i have to replace shocks since different springs?

I wouldn't pay $300 for G37 coupe springs only...go over to my350z and find some Z springs with shocks for maybe a third of that price. Best to change out the shocks too, since they are made to work with the length and rate of the Z springs.

but you say i should go with z springs + shocks? would that be a overall better combination? and do i have to look at any particular year for the spring/shocks?

when converting to z spings/struts its going to be a stiffer ride, but they will work better with each other. As far as a particular year I don't think it differs much... look more at the miles they have, when it comes to struts/springs less miles the better
