Brakes Which rotors and brakes to get?

New to these forums and have been reading threads about brakes. To start off I have an '05 G35x sedan and its time to replace the brakes and rotors. I'm looking to get the best brakes possible for cold weather. Looking for long lasting and good braking quality. Would love to get rid of all the brake dust from the OEMS too if possible. Seems all agree Hawk ceramics don't break well cold or in cold weather. It was suggested to me to get premium level napa rotors with akebono ceramics. Is the lack of cold stopping power true to all ceramics? Will I run into the same issues with the akebono's? Should I just stick to OEMS and deal with the brake dust? Everyone's help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

You have to search this subthread. There has recently been a plethora of posting on the topic.

You do realize that the OEM G brake pads have some ceramic in their composition.

And that not all pads have the same level of Ceramic in their formulation.

Thanks I don't know a whole lot about brakes and was wondering if the suggestion was a good one or not. Anyone know of a good combination that gives you a little of each? Appreciate the help! From what i'm reading it seems OEM is the only way to go for good braking. Is this a safe assumption?

Hawk hps pads are a really good way to go. I highly recommend getting slotted rotors, not drilled. Stoptech makes some good ones for not too high of a price.
I got mine from this site. They have the lowest prices, the shipping is cheap and they arrive at your door in 2 days. Good luck bro.

ferro-carbon is better than ceramic

I believe your assumption is incorrect. The gist of other posts is that if you can only live with exactly the same brake pedal feel characteristics of the OEM pads, i.e. an abrupt bite rather than a more linear pedal feel, then the OEM pad is for you. But because of the presumably softer resin compounds and higher metal content in the OEM pads you're going to have to deal with low brake pad and rotor life and lots of dust.

BTW OEM pads were originally supplied by Hitachi and Sumitomo for the Gs.

That being said, a suburban Chicago custom shop which specializes in Gs and Zs commonly installs Hawk HPS with Centric rotors with good results. Premium non-slotted rotors are fine for the street.

Centric, BTW, makes Stoptech components.

I went with Centric's Posi Quiet Extended Wear (Kevlar, Aramid and Copper mix). Tech reps at Centric/ Stoptech recommended these for the Gs. So far dust is virtually transparent and cleans off easily. These pads have good cold bite without the excessive grabby pedal sensation common to the OEM pads that becomes fatiguing in daily commuting. The best part is that I am on my way to easily obtaining 45,000 miles on these pads (on Centric rotors) which is much improved over the 20,000 miles I got from the OEM pads in very relaxed driving.
