Knocking sound from the rear
Knocking sound from the rear
Trying to find out what is that is causing my rear to make a metallic knocking sound when driving into my driveway, OR when turning slowly but aggressively into a corner.
Arizona houses have a crummy bump style driveway and half the time I hear a knock after my front wheels are already over the bump(and 45 degrees in) and the rear starting to come up in the driveway.
So Im trying to find out what the actual problem is, so that I can correct it.

Simple test..
Turn on the car put you windows down and open the driver side door. Place foot on brake and keep it there. Then place the car in reverse did you hear a click? Then put it in drive was it the same click?? Disregard the transmission engagement ... you have to listen to the rear axles.
If it clicks that's the axle tab.
If no click then its potentially worn bushings especially if you live in the states where the county spreads salt on the tarmac.

I wouldn't say it the axle if he's hearing when going up an incline. That sounds a lot more like a bushing that has either popped out or worn out.
If you it is the Axle, the dealership should lube it up for you free of charge. If it isn't, then take it to you mechanic and have him poke around at the rear end bushings.

Also arizona, has no salt on the roads, so thats not gonna cause a problem.

Yea the front's will probably go again in the time you own the car.
Most dealerships are good about the axle click and will do it just because it's simple. But there is a DIY on here to lube it up, I just can't recall where it is. Do a search and it'll pop up.

Real question is now, besides talking to the dealership about the rear axle needing to be lube'd up is where do I find the bushings, which one's i need and which one's are the best one's to go with, OEM Vs aftermarket.
