While chcnging out my rear brake pads last night, I found that the tire place managed to cross thread a lug nut last time they were rotated. The only way to get teh wheel off was to break it. Still waiting on a call back from them. In the mean time what is involved with replacing teh studs? I only got a quick look at it last night, I was so disgusted I didn't want to look at it. Looks like teh brake rotor may need to come off, is this teh case?

Yes, pull the brake rotor off. You gotta tap out the broken stud and then pull / tighten in the new stud.

That is what I was afraid of. When I pulled the original rotors, I had to pretty much destroy them, get them off.

I did one years ago, I don't think I even needed to take the rotor off if I recall right. If you spin it and look at the back there is a spot where you can get at it from the back. I then pounded the broken one out. I pounded the new one most of the way then used a lug nut with some washers and an impact gun to suck it the rest of the way through.
