I see a drop taking my winter happiness away. Summer 19's on a stock susp. X?

Had the driver side compression rod changed yesterday, the first one to go in the ~90K I've put on the car so far (at 158K now). All in all I've had lots of fun this winter, and it's not quite over. I've gotten the hold of the steady forward/sideways drifting coming out of two particular corners in town, no huge shift in recoveries and the Hotchkis sway bars aren't even on yet. (well except this one time where the body went sideways back & forth twice before I could steady it, 5 am in about 2" wet snow). Strut tower brace probably helps a good deal, along with the Garit KX's I've got on the OEM 17's.

I take the car through 1 ft of fluffy snow in normal to fun conditions, and I feel a drop would prevent me from doing that again - based on clearance only, thinking about long highway travels specifically, because yes I do roll through blizzards 2-3 times a year between Xmas & New Year and that **** is nasty on partially covered roads.

Am I insane in overlooking a drop that way? This is the Canadian snow belt folks, serious white stuff.

...because I might just have 19's thrown on the car around May. Definitely nothing close to autoX level, before you suggest RPF1's. With the stock susp. I was thinking about 19 X 8 w/ 40mm offset, 225/45... 45 vs 40 just to maximize the chances it doesn't look completely ridiculous. I would never get the purists on here off my back w/o a drop, but oh well all is still good with the world...

Drop would take winter fun away --> no drop --> do you feel 225/45 is ideal, as opposed to 225/40 or even 245/40?

Drop would not take winter fun away --> drop --> price appreciation? I'm reading the "Calling upon all lowered X's" sticky, can't seem to find out how much these guys paid... and most of them brought up camber issues.

Once again thanks a bunch for taking the time to enlighten me on stuff I barely know a thing or two about.

Nevermind. Apparently you can ask JM Auto Racing for BCs that suit your need i.e. going back to stock height for the winter in this case. Now I gotta wonder if I'd be happy with just one finger gap in the rear for the winter since that's the max/highest setting.

Ya coils could definitely suit your needs, just be aware you'll have to realign when you switch setups for the different seasons.

I'm pretty sure most coils will be able to give you that 1 finger gap that you need for winter if that's all that you need.

After doing a decent amount of research on my350z I would recommend on going something a bit better than the cheap entry level coils like bc. I ran function form 2's for a few years and the drop was nice, but other than that I wouldn't run them again. The standard recommendation is shy away from stances, bc's, f&f, any of the cheaper chinese brands if you want some decent coils with not-sub par dampening. I was contemplating between KW/Eibach prostreets (rebranded kw v1's) and fortune auto coils and I actually just bought some fortune auto coils.

Thing with the X seems to be, unless the aftermarket manufacturer specifically mentions it's for AWD applications, coils made for RWD cars are not great fits and there's not a whole lot of AWD-friendly coils out there.

If I have the car dropped, I'd put some money aside for camber kits, front & back. I thought BC was the only brand to advertise kits for the X?!

Looking at TEIN for example, "4-dr sedan exc. AWD" is what I see for all their coilover series.

Ahh didnt notice you were awd, I actually don't know much about awd setups. I guess in that case just kinda check around the forums maybe to see what others have ran.

that might be of some use to you as well

Like I said, I'm still tearing through it... most guys have either BC coils or 350Z springs w/ stock struts. Not having any luck finding reputable coils made for the X other than BC and I'm 8 pages in, started with last page.

But then again a guy said "Screw it I'm done playing, BC it is" where as you're telling me to stay away from them......

You'll likely be fine with BC's, tons of g35s and 350zs run them and stances which are pretty much equivalent and love them. It is just generally known that their dampening is of poor quality compared to brands a bit more expensive. But if only bc's fit and you're looking for coils I would just go with that, I doubt you will be really disappointed unless you get spring rates that are way too stiff/harsh.
