I think he was having a hard time understanding mods done at the expense of function. There's a difference between something that doesn't help performance, and something that severely limits it.

I'm 20 and I think overly aggressively stretched tires/excessive camber and poke are stupid. Not only an older guy's preference

The only thing I don't understand about it is why so many people hate it.

Cool, it's not your thing, there's nothing wrong with that.

Stupid, worthless, etc... Unnecessary, imo. I think it's unnecessary to spend 30k on engine upgrades to make a G35 fast, but I won't talk **** about people who do. I respect the amount of passion they have for their car and the work they put into it. This would be an awfully boring world if we all did the same **** to our cars.

And just to clarify - my car is no longer "slammed" like it was in my avatar. It was fun for a while, I enjoyed the looks I got, the random conversations that started out of nowhere, and the people I wouldn't have met otherwise. And now I want to enjoy driving it again so I'm back on the function side of the fence.

We should spend more time supporting the folks doing things we like then talking **** about the folks who are doing things we don't like.

I think I'm in line with calling it stupid. It's my opinion. By no means am I making a personal attack on the owner of such cars.

Leksikon, you nailed it.

I agree that paint, plastidip, window tinting, engine component chroming etc do not always provide function as much as looks but it is much harder to grasp a modification that actually reduces functionality. I am all behind people personalizing their rides in whatever means they choose, but this one boggles my mind because it is a negative on functionality and not a positive or even neutral benefit.

The benefit is simply the look of it. The folks who do it love the way it looks and are happy with the result. To them it's akin to art in a way, it's purely subjective of course, but it is what it is.

Think of it like a modern Japanese interpretation of a channeled and chopped rat rod if that makes sense?

Its just the extreme camber, looks like broken axles. I guess if something is worth doing, its worth over-doing.

Gary - you haven't jumped into the old guys thread, we have been waiting on you.

You know what IMO stands for??? There's a reason I put that in my post. I don't care if you don't like my opinion just like I DGAF about yours. And your right that it is all subjective.

As my Dad used to say "everyone is entitled to their own opinion...even if their opinion is wrong"

they lower it because it makes the car more aesthetically pleasing to them and makes old people frown. Your perspective reminds me of someone's nagging mom that doesn't understand (or pretends not to understand) why guys waste money on cars with more horsepower when a ford escort will provide you with the same function- to get you from A to B.

I totally get they do it for looks and power to them for doing something different. That doesn't/ mean it's not strange to drop a big wad of money on something that hinders performance and functionality. What other mods can you think of that actually hinder functionality?

depends on your definition of functionality.

If it's driving ability, then a sound system comes to mind. so much mass and power drain.

I don't have too much of a problem with hellaflush/stance, as long as they understand it is completely form > function. Or as long as they don't take it so far that they are a danger on the road, like:

or

and no, I don't buy the story that that's power over.
