Popping noise from front suspension.

Has anyone had a popping sound come from the front when turning?

I replaced compression rod bushings and lower ball joints yet I still have this popping sound when turning the steering wheel. Sometimes I will hear the pop when coming to a hard stop.

I've recently acquired this one. Gdirtyfive told me there is a connecting rod between the front left and front right wheel that a nut becomes loose on. Tighten these down and the popping should go away.

My lift comes in this week and I'll test that theory. Pretty much what is happening is the rod is raising up on the bolt and torquing the whole rod. When it reaches a maximum it pops back into shape. Good luck!

Update:

So today I had some RHFCs being installed and decided to look for any loose bolts. While my car was on the lift I checked a nut on the driver side (since thats where the popping sound only came from was on the driver side) and I was amazed that it was loose that I could hand turn it. The bolt was located on the actual subframe near the tire. I will try and look for a diagram to show you what it looks like.

But so far no pops or noises reversing or stopping hard.

Thanks Urban for reminding me about this thread. I really wish I took pics, but after a couple days I noticed the sound coming back. since the beginning along with the popping sound was that sensation that something was loose every time I would come to a complete stop or go. which gave me the impression that something must be loose. of course I did find those loose nuts and bolts underneath but that's expected for a lowered car like mine. The tightening of the bolts helped but that sensation of something loose stayed. I I decided to replace my outer tie rods with Tein. The only reason I did the outers only because the shop had no inners in stock. After the install the sound completely disappeared, not only that but the whole front felt much stiffer. That loose sensation all but vanished, you would think that I just installed some TEIN mono flex damper.

Thanks IU!

My bushings aren't cracked to destruction, but are having hairline cracks perpendicular to the mounting point. When is it time to replace?

It's always good to replace most with whiteline bushings. As we allknow Nissan bushings are not thatgreat . The reason too go with workers white line is the metalcasing that prevents noise like creaking

Popping noise resolved

I can twist one of my tie rods by hand. The other does not move. Is this causing the intermittent popping noise when turning?

Basically all the moving parts in the front CAN make a popping noise, tie rod ends, wheel bearings, compression rod, both ball joints. You need to troubleshoot YOUR vehicle to see what's causing it.
