I would also shoot the steering shaft u-joint from below the vehicle. It's possible it's slightly binding up and the vibration/noise is being sent up the shaft.

Especially since it's such a high failure rate item on higher mileage vehicles.

Hey, I've gotten this clicking feel and sound through my steering wheel for a couple months now, did you ever find out the problem? I'm thinking its might have to do something with the joints on the column but I haven't taken a close look at mine yet. I think theres an upper and lower U joint for our cars, not exactly sure.

It is contained in the joint on the column, right where it pivots and penetrates the firewall. I found if you reposition the steering wheel slightly, it would go away but return again after a few weeks.

I sold the car to my buddy (he will likely sell it back to me when he no longer needs it in a year or so). Right before I sold it to him I got under the dash, took off the lower dash knee panel for better access, and sprayed the snot out of the inside of the steering column boot at the firewall. I used the Liquid Wrench version of WD40 and a long spray straw. Was careful to not make a mess. I think this improved it.

Okay thanks! I will take a look at it when the weather gets warmer and see if my joints need replacing.

I mean to say you can’t see the joint, it is hidden in the boot. Try changing the angle of your tilt and spray the joint thru the boot as a described above
