Pads & Rotors

I need to replace my pads and rotors on the front. I would like to do this myself instead of being gouged by the dealer. Where do I order the replacement parts and what additional parts and tools will I need to get the job done?
Thanks.

If the car is under 3 years and 36000 miles and not a '05 or '06, the pads and rotors are warrantied by Infiniti because of a law suit. They'll change both free under this clause (I've had this done at the dealer already). Good luck!

I wish I was in that category D87, unfortunately I have a 2003 with 59K miles. Infiniti reimbursed me for pads and rotors the 1st time around. This is the second time I get to replace the rotors.

That added warranty came out before the lawsuit was filed, besides, I don't think that lawsuit has been settled. I got the letter right after buying my '04 in October of '03, it seems like it came in November.

God....get rid of 'em and install the 'Metal Matrix' pads from Stillen. Work GREAT, not expensive ($100 +/- a set), and NO dust!.....I replaced mine (OEM) on my 04' before I had a hundred miles on 'em.... so I didn't even bother turning the rotors. Did so because I knew what I was in for (worked for Infiniti) and couldn't be bothered with all the warranty crap. Took me an hour to install in my driveway. Great 'bang for the buck'......but, I'll be go'in after-market rotors (drilled and slotted), pads, and stainless lines this spring. Check out the various (and plentiful) older posts via the 'search' concerning the 'Metal Matrix' and other brands of after-market pads. B.Cool JBX

Yeah sure........the pads are/always have been the weak link in the brake chain. Simple install. I knew that I would swap them out long before I had even taken the delivery of my X. B.Cool jbx

Rotors and pads are available from kragen and poop boys. Expect to pay about $175 for the three of them.

My 03.5 sedan has 18,000 miles on it and is coming up on the 3-year mark. I have not had any issues with my brakes, but I do now feel a ridge around the edge of the rotor that my dealer previously said was an indicator of rotor wear. Anybody have any luck getting the dealer to replace the rotors and pads under warranty, even if there is no readily apparent problem with the breaks? Or will they take a measurment and if it's not at or below the minimum thickness, just tell me "too bad, yours aren't worn enough?"

I believe that the minimum service thickness is 2mm for the pads. Unless you are complaining of a noise or performance issue, I doubt they will change the setup.

It doesn't hurt to ask; call your service advisor to set up an oil change and to check out the "grinding" you hear when the brakes are cold.

In theory yeah.........If your rotors have taken too much of a beat'n from the OEM pads, your warranty should cover the replacement of the front and the 'turning' of the rear. Just replace the stock with the after-market on fresh/new rotors. I just slapped mine on because there was less than a hundred miles on the car. You should always give new pads a fresh surface BCool, jbx Pictures below were taken this rainy morning (click-on to enlarge).....Pads have 8,500 mile on em' and wheels have gone over two week without a bath!..lol The Metal Matrix wear clean and do a great job (once their warmed up of course) jbx
