about brake warranty.. not great

So I purchased a pre-owned 04 Coupe recently and called in Infiniti to speak to service dept. I called in couple weeks ago as well and then the guy was being nice and told me about brakes being covered under warranty if they can't last 36k on them.. I know that sounds a little odd because noone's brakes here on this forum last that long... anyways..

So I called in today since I may have time this week to bring in my car for service and this time a woman picked up and she told me brakes wearing on Coupes at 26k is normal and second that Brembo's are not warrantied. Is this true? I noticed by brakes were ready to go when changing snow tires and looked the most I could get out of them is 5k more and this was 1k miles ago.. I don't want to push the brakes to the very last limit.

I bought the car with 25k miles and kinda sucks that I gotta bring it up to have the brakes changed so quickly. Will they give me a loaner car during this if I take in for 30k maintanence and get a spoiler added on as well even if none of those are covered by warranty.

BTW I called Herb Chambers Infiniti Boston where I purchased the car.

Thanks

ok ok.. well infiniti called me back telling me they just realized I bought this car less than a month ago and won't even give me the prices on brakes because they don't want to scare me away..

they told me to bring it in on Saturday and they want to take a look at it... they sounded very friendly about it.. I hope all goes well.

Did you buy the car from the dealer your talking to ? If so then they should have noticed that the brakes where low and replaced them. As for the 3/36 warranty unfortunately it doesnt cover the brembo's and they didnt want to tell you a price of the pads because the fronts are about $250 and the rears are almost as much.

A used car is sold as-is, friend. You should consider paying the service dept $100 to do a thorough check next time. Anyway, new brakes are under $100.

Not always true when you buy from a dealer like he did. Most will offer some level of warranty on most of their cars ranging from 30 days to 90 days; plus the regular manufacturer powertrain warranties.

A brake job on a G35 equipped with Brembos will cost many times more than $100.

Fair enough (about the Brembo pad prices) - but read the fine print. Warranties rarely cover brakes, or anything expendable (batteries, brake pads, fluids, etc)

My response was only to address your statement that brakes cost only $100. to replace on a G and that used cars are sold as is; neither of which is exactly accurate.

Since the car was bought from an Infiniti dealer and is a newer car it would normally have been reconditioned before going on the lot for sale. This would include servicing brakes that are 80-90% worn out at the time of purchase. Most reputable dealers would do this or fix them at a dramatically reduced price after a very short owership period of less than 30 days, unless there were a lot of miles racked up since it was bought. This might be covered in written warranty covering all items in the first 30 days of ownership or an implied warranty where there is an expectation a car will not need a regular service item like brakes or a muffler so soon after purchase. In any case I believe a reputable dealer will help the poster out with a good deal on fixing the car he recently purchased.

Good luck 2Evolved.

Thanks guys.. This is the dealer I purchased from... what actually happened was when I first called they didn't know I just purchased this car from them... after giving them my VIN number for brake prices they called me back and said.. Hey you just bought this car less than a month ago and I said yah.. when I swapping for snow's I noticed my brakes are terribly worn and they said well bring it in because we want to take a look at them.

Before all of that they sounded like they didn't want to cover anything or even deal with me at that point..

I hope everything goes well but yah on a car with 25k miles they should put new things like pads, oil, fluids etc.. not sure how long they would be sitting in the lot before being sold... and also... it's an Infiniti, reputable luxury auto retailer it's not like I'm buying some pre-owned 10K car.

What I meant about the fine print - even if a warranty was included with the sale, it likely excluded brakes, batteries, hoses, belts, fluids, etc. That's all.

It's good advice, REGARDLESS of what any dealer tells you, to pay $100 and have a service department or mechanic look over the 150 things you won't check before spending thousands of dollars.

No sweat. We both agree on getting the car looked at by an independant source.

In any event I hope the dealer helps him out.

Pretty much what I thought. They will normally fix all that stuff before it gets on the lot so you're probably good on getting it done for nothing or next to nothing.

The brake warranty only covered the 5AT models.
