2nd set of brakes with only 26K miles ... GRRRR

My rear brakes started making noise earlier this week so I took my car to dealer earlier today. My front brakes were already replaced at 16K miles, so I thought this time they are just going to do the rear ones.

I just got a call from the service department manager informing me that they are going to replace both, front and rear brakes.

His explanation is that these are performance brakes and they wear off faster. WTF??? How is everyone else doing? I will not have to pay anything this time as the brake are still covered by the warranty but I am not happy about replacing brakes once a year once the warranty expires.

I had mine changed at about 10k miles. I have about 29k on now and my brakes are all fu*ked up. I am planning to changed them at about 30k. The
5at brakes are coved by infiniti till 36K so I am just waiting.

My friend also has a 5at and his brakes needed to be changed at 9k. this is wrong. I think the brake system is a lemon. I am planning to use better brake pads once my warranty expires at 36K. Also if you drive local, your brakes will need to be changed most likely every 10k miles.

Good luck.

^ All the cars mentioned above are 04s?

I don't think the 05s are covered under warranty.

Talk to your SA, to see they are willing to change them using aftermarket ones next time, of course you have to buy them yourself but they might save you on the labor on the install, since they are going to replace them anyways, think aftermarket ones might last you longer, My 03 have front replaced at 13k and 28k both pad and rotors, the rear at 17k and 32k but only pads and front was start to squeaking a bit when I trade it in at 37k.

Front both, rotors and brakes. Rears - only pads. Still quite amazing that brakes are wearing off so fast. I have never seen anything like this. My car is 03 and I am just hoping this is not an issue with never models. The warranty for the brakes was added at later time by Infiniti. I guess a lot of people bitched enough so they threw in free replacements for 36K miles.

Racer, what do you mean 'warrantied' set on the brembos? Brembos aren't covered under warrenty?

If your dealer will switch out your pads for aftermarket ones, do it! When my warranty ran out, I switched to akebono pads with stock rotors through an independent shop. I only got 15K with each set of pads. The dealer would not do aftermarket pads. I am sooo much happier. No squeals, no dust, and no grabbiness at low speeds. Others have changed theirs out too with success. If you do a search, there are many posts on the brake warranty and aftermarket pads. Good luck.
