looking at buying a g35 or 350 z
hi, im new here, my name is Chase. i just sold my Toyota MR-2 Spyder, i loved the car, it was small, extremily light, and GREAT on gas... but slow and extremely underpowered! so now im looking at getting a G35, but dont quite know if i have enough "man credits" to get a $30K+ car... even though its what i really want. i know i can get cheaper, but i want the 6sp W/navigation and all the goodies possible, lol.
so heres the delima.. why exactly is the G35 woth more than the 350Z (other than the ability to badge it with "SKYLINE") i do plan on modding the car, probablly twin turbo kit, and some nice wheels. i know the 350Z is lighter, which is a BIG plus to me.. but the G35 has a back seat, which is a BIG plus to my wife...
i also like to race BTW, as in road corse and autoX.
any info would be great.
thanks alot!

For the price, both are not as good as some of the other options available. An STI or Evo is much better stock and a used C6 vette is around the same price. The G35 is waaay to heavy for a good track car.
I agree with the STi / Evo option.
Your wife would get an easy access / semi-roomy backseat. You both could agree on AWD. And if you can accept the fact that the Evo VIII's clutch sucks, then you may like the Evo.
Personally I'd go with the 2006 STI..

well one thing to consider is the insurance rates. typically a 350z will have significant higher premiums than the g35 coupe. As far as the EVO/STI, they are fast cars but since it wasnt one of your original choices, I will not mention any further.
well... i dont want a 4 door.... so that takes out both evo and sti. as far as the vette goes, id want a C5 z06 vette, which is still backseat-less. i really like the looks of the G35 coupe, to me its one of the sexiest cars out there(excluding anything that's made by Lotus) plus the car will be my drily driver, so confort and ergonomics have alot to do with it as well.
i talked to my wife yesterday about it and she said she was fine with getting the G35, but that we gotta save up a big enough D.P. before we can get one... so i dunno when its gunna happen, i just hope its soon.
thanks once again!!

Why don't you just get a used c5 zo6? You can get one cheaper then a stock g35, and it will be relatively new. The performance is unmatched, and you would need to be completely modified (for a g35) to be able to beat one. Only downside is that it has 2 seats. It's pretty comfortable, roomy, and actually not too high on gas and insurance. I know this, b/c I know many guys that own c5 zo6s. In the end, you will also probably save a lot of money if you plan to modify the G. And w/ a couple thousand it's very easy to get the vette to hit 11s in the quarter, since it already does low 12s stock. If you're really crazy then get a supercharger. No joke.

Full option G35 coupe will cost around 38K it's a decent car I would pick the G over the Vette anytime of the day. I'm not a big fan of domestic cars I don't care how fast it is. The G is not the fastest car on the street, but then again I don't race on the street. I use the power more on overtaking someone than racing someone. I disagree that the G is not a good track car. There was a bunch of us out there that road race our cars and it can hold it's own. We just went to Laguna Seca last January and we all had a blast. The next event will be at California speedway on July 21st. The only thing you need to change when tracking your car is your brakes. Need to upgrade the pads and brake fluid to handle all that hot laps you will be making to prevent brake fade. Suspension you might go with better setup there are several choices out there. As far as the engine just get a decent intake system and your set. The G is not the perfect car it will have it's own problems, but what car doesn't. To me it's more of a preference. I wanted the 350Z originally until the dealer didn't even want to look at me when I got there. So I went to Infiniti they had the car I want and the deal was done in less than an hour so I went home with one. I love my car like you said nothing like it on the road. To this day I still get looks on my car everytime I take it out for a drive. I have no regrets in buying this car I could have bought an M3 or even a 996 but I'm glad with my choice. Goodluck and enjoy it should you go for it.
