Thanks guys. It's nice to know that some of the people around here know I'm not a *complete* buffoon.
I'm just chalking this up to a clash of personalities.
Colin, I hate that you deleted his post though. I'd have loved it to stay so that people could make their own decision as to who they agreed with, but you make the rules last time I checked.

I hate to rant about something when the full picture isn't there for anyone else.
I know what the people who matter think of me and I'm just fine with that.

Damn..Had no idea my question work start this fire. I have one more to add to the bonfire. When is the tax applied? Do they apply the tax after my down payment or apply the tax then subtract my down payment from that total?
example...
selling price - down payment + tax rate
or
selling price + tax rate - down payment

Let me step in this one again.
How the tax is applied is likely to be yet another item that is dependent upon where you are. Here you are taxed either on the sale price of the car or, if you have a trade, on the difference between the sale price and the value of the trade. Any down payments would be applied after that point. I promise you that all around you will do better to call the local tax office and ask them EXACTLY what paperwork you will need, what the tax rate is, etc and ask if you get a credit based on anything you paid in another state. Then call the dealership you are looking to buy from and ask them how the taxes are applied there. Lord knows, the finance manager there should know.

Your repeatedly demonstrated inability to distinguish reasoned opinion, from baseless conjecture, makes any financial advice rendered by you, suspect.
Or, if those words were too big for you to understand-
Your opinion on money matters can't be trusted.
P.S. To answer your question, I brought up your prior leasing comment as further evidence of bad financial advice. Others coming here, seeking help, will form their own opinion as to the relevance of your comments. I only hope they come upon this thread before your info costs them serious money.
Have a nice life.
