Hey all,

I'm in a sticky situation. My car was totalled by a moron rear ending me and now I need a car desperately. This really sucks because I was planning to trade it in for the g37 during the winter when interest rates are lower and in hopes the dealer will put a deal on the car.

Well, now I will be going out Friday to contemplate purchasing an 06-07 g35. For me it will be about a 10k difference compared to the msrp of a g37.

So are the changes in the g37 worth the 10k difference? I can try stretching out the wait with a rental car, but not sure if it's worth it.

From what I know the VQ37 engine will have variable lifting as well as variable valve timing.. ok found a quote:

"Success and evolution has caused Nissan to enhance the engine by adding a VTEC/Lift mechanism and dual variable cam timing while also slightly redesigning the head and bumping displacement to 3.7 liters. This nets the new VQ37DE 330hp in lesser trim and 350hp in top trim."

Its all up to you, which style do you prefer? the G35 or the G37, IMHO I like the G35 way more. the G37 rear looks retarded.

 

I would get the G35...Not a big fan of the looks of the G37 either. But if i did like the G37, i would still wait. Models that come out in the first year always have a lot of "bugs" that need to be fixed

 

We shouldn't be making decisions for you. If you're really concerned about price... go with the older generation. If you're really concerned about luxury... go with the new generation. That's my .02. Go with the car that you like better... if you like the G35 more (exterior, interior, luxury amenities, and so forth), go with it or the G37 more (exterior, interior, luxury amenities, and so forth), go with that. You shouldn't really be basing your decision on what people on these forums say. It's your future car.

Is the 10k difference really worth it to you? BTW... how do you know if it's a 10k difference? A fully loaded G35 coupe runs around 42k... I don't see how you can drop that like 9k less.

Also remember... a lot of opinions you get here will be biased. It's like asking... 335i or IS350 on a Bimmer forum. (just an example)

Yimbie, it's a 10k difference because a slightly used or dealer demo can be found for right around 29k. The dealer in lisle, Il has informed me to expect to pay around 38-39k for their first allocation of g37's. Of course some will be more expensive than others but that is the average price speculation on current information. I'm not going to purchase a g35 new if that is the route I have to go. The reason I ask is because I just need some insight cause I need to act very soon.

Really . . . $10k? In that case, get the G35 and save the difference.

Just curious- why are you in such a rush? Do u not have a car right now?

I'd wait, yes its a "1st gen" but is not that big of a strech from the G35, personally I think there is a strong similarity and I'm guessing it was just another step...they could have possibly gotten away with just marketing it as a new G35.

Anyway, personally I'd wait so you can see the G37 and the G35 and make the comparison in person so you can make those comparisons/decisions such as those that Yimbie was saying.

Oh for those that dont know, I was rear ended by an illegal immigrant a week ago going ~ 45mph when I was at a dead stop in traffic. My Lexus es300 was deemed totaled by my insurance, and thus I am in need of a car.

My plan was to trade the car in for maybe a 2nd-3rd shipment of g37's, but that is feasibly impossible now.

 

Ah, that's no good. Well, here is something I would keep in mind, even if you buy a used car, keeping it for only a few months means you'll probably lose quite a bit of $, now if you're going to wait another year or two that's another story.

 

How about just buying a beater and driving that for about 6 or 7 months then selling it? Get a car that holds value well, like a Toyota or something... and use it to get around until you can get the G37... then try to sell the used car for close to what you got it for.

I know a lot about Toyota Trucks for example, and you can pretty much buy a 5 to 8 year old one of those... drive it for a half a year to a year or so and then sell it for almost the same amount as what you bought it for. Sure beats buying a newer G35 as a temporary car and selling it in a few months but losing a few grand on it because it's soo new and cars depreciate a lot more in their first year or two.

 

Buy an 05 - take the 10K and FI the car...then you'll really have some fun!!

 

From working @ a Honda dealership for a pretty long time, and having Infiniti across the street. I for one can tell you that i HIGHLY doubt there will be any sort of mark downs on interest rates & prices for the G37. Maybe you can look for lesser rates about 6months to 1 year after its release.

Anytime a new model comes out, demand will be high and most of the ones coming across the pacific has already been spoken for by those who placed thier orders months ago. Good luck finding a G37 that has the options or even the color you want. No dealer in their right mind would give you a car without a markup. If the dealer is telling you $39k for their first round of AVAILABLE G37's, i highly doubt the ones they're quoting you on is loaded with much. I would expect base model with maybe 1 or 2 packages at most. You're not going to get all the "cool/new" features. For $39k, you can buy a fully loaded 07 with every option on the car. I paid $40k out the door for my fully loaded 05 6mt from the factory.

Unless you really like the G37, i'd take the above suggestion of buying a beater to use for now and sell later. Expect to wait about 6 months after the initial relase before the dealer will even think about bargaining with you.
