Help! Negotiating with a dealer on '07 coupes
Well I emailed a few dealers last night and started to get quotes already. First one emailed and said that he had talked to his manager and they could $500 over invoice. I think that's not in the range I want to be. In fact I got my 06 G35 coupe for $600 under invoice when there wasn't going to be a new model. So I'll either counter or just move on to a dealer that wants to move vehicles. Others have been able to get this vehicle for 2K under invoice recently and that's what I'm hoping to get. I'm in Socal so there should be other dealers that are willing to deal.

I ended up putting down $12,200 and opted for the Zylon paint coat, prepaid service (pretty cheap), tire care, and lo jack.
I decided to do 72 month financing and my payments are 499/mo. I figured that I'll pay maybe 650/mo to reduce the amount of interest paid, but I wanted the flexibility to only have to pay 500/mo incase of a rainy day.
There is supposed to be a factory to dealer incentive of 1500 on G35's to make way for the 2008 G37. Also, dealers who sell more G35's are entitled to more G37 coupes, which are presold like candy.
So, don't be afraid to negotiate! You can get what you want for a decent price.

Also was this with just one dealer or did you shop around a lot before getting this deal? Right now dealers are quoting me from $200-$500 over invoice for a MSRP of $39,740 (Invoice, $36,320). I would think they could do a lot better since next month the G37 is available. Should counter with some low-ball offers and see what I get? What do you think?

Some of dealers are not very customer friendly and won't even budge while others you can name your price and get your car. You just have shop around. Last time around some dealers told me that I could never get a deal like I did and I proved them wrong. Some dealers just want to move volume and others don't even wont' to budge like $500. Go figure.
I didnt post anything about admin/paper work fees...
Looking back over the finance paperwork:
The negotiated price paid for the vehicle:
$35,850.00 (forgot that they last minute haggled another 350)
Invoice: $37,450
-----------------
Difference from negotiated price to invoice: $1,600
I decided that since the price was good enough on the vehicle, I would so something I don't usually do.... Opt for some extras.
Here is what I came up with in extras:
Processing fee: 395
All maintenance to 60k (we all know this game too): 1075
Xzylon: 599
Road hazard: 699
lojack: 995
-----------------------
So, that's $3,763 in extras
They collected back $2,163 in extras for the $1600 they lost (well, didn't get) on negotiation. I gained what I think was worth about that much in my estimations.
I figured that lojack was anywhere between a 700-1400 dollar option from what I saw online, so I didn't think 995 was unreasonable. It is a necessary evil with this car.
Prepaid maintenance (maybe 16 visits): about 67 bucks per visit beats going to jiffy lube or grease n go and paying 40 bucks with no car wash, no balances, and no loaners + something to eat and drink. Also, going to the dealer is nice if you have no time to wait since you can take a loaner car.
The 2 questionable items in my estimations were the Xzylon and Road hazard insurance. The road hazard covers bad things happening to tires and rims that insurance typically doesn't cover or could save you a claim.
If the 19" rims are maybe $1,000 each to replace (OEM replacement price is RAPE), I thought it just might pay off one day. I drive to PA a few times every year and the roads I travel up there are HORRIBLE. I screwed a rim up there before and it cost me 650 bucks to replace with a new tire. A while after I got the new rim, I wasn't paying attention and curb rashed 2 of my rims pulling into a street-side spot. To get them fixed or replaced was more expense than I felt like paying for the damage done (didn't look really bad, but it was annoying).
I remembered that tire and rim experience with my last car and thought... man, my insurance doesn't even cover rim theft on a comprehensive. In the 4-5 years I'll probably have this car, I'm almost certain to cash in on this.
As far as the Xzylon goes, after rethinking it, I think it was probably needless expense, and I'm not sure that I'll really ever feel that I got my money's worth UNLESS it really makes keeping crap off of my car as easy as they say it does. I do a TON of highway driving and my paint sees lots of little rocks and pebbles falling off of trucks, bugs, and crap spraying off of the road that is hard to get off. So, will I feel that I got 600 bucks worth of cleaning frustration relief? I doubt it, but we'll see.
So, those of you who said that eluded to the idea that the price was too good to be true were both right and wrong. They were wrong in that I didn't have to pay a penny more than $35,850, BUT I opted to pay for some items that were very affordable to me that I felt I wanted.
I'm pretty happy with my car, and I could have paid what I negotiated without squandering away the sweetness of the negotiated deal, but screw it, it was still a decent deal in the grand scheme of things.
Good luck guys!
