Looking to buy a G or a Z . Anything i need to know?

Hey there guys, im new here obviously. Im a big poster on 3si.org but i think ive fllen out of love with my stealth . I really like the g/z platform but i think im more of a G guy. I was hoping you guys could give me some basic platform info that could sway me either way.

So all in all im used to gobs of torque from having a twin turbo and speed on demand. Think this could be a car for me? Im most likely going to be moving from NH to Ft. Lauderdale Florida so i wont have to worry about the rwd problem in the snow.

How well do these cars take to mods? Can they get to 300whp fairly easy?

I'm sure i have tons of questions left but those are my main points that I want to touch on.

Heres some pics of my current toy :

Thanks everyone for your help!

p.s. those pics are before i put coilovers on
AND how do you deal with stereo upgrades?

well the G is heavy just like your VRT, the suspension is very stiff and you feel every little uneven bump on the road which is really REALLY annoying given the fact that the G is supposed to be a LUXURY coupe. You feel the power but only when youre over 4000rpm. The Z is around 3200 pounds compared to the G at 3800. I hope my stats are correct. The engine is good and handles mods allright I guess, 400whp seems to be this a limit if you're gonna turbocharge on stock block, and even at 400whp its still pretty slow compared to other vehicles in that HP range. uhmmmm... lets see what else. uhhhh.... it looks good and you'll overall enjoy it

Do you have the adjustable suspension on yours?

I have a 94 VR-4, and the G's ride softer/smoother than the VR-4, even with the sport package on a G37.

The G37 CAN 300rwhp with some work... FI is of course the easy way ... they seem to be dynoing 280whp (magazine) from the factory, and seems very promising.

a BIG difference is going to be that you're not going to have a rush of power at 2300~ rpm like you do with the 3si; instead youre going to have tons of power that keeps growing as you rev, instead of starting to sputter out at 6k rpm. Torque peak is going to be THOUSANDS of rpm higher

There is also a huge difference in driveability. My VR-4 has to be over 1600rpm or so to be able to WOT without lugging, 1400+ for realistic daily driving. The VQ35/37 will never lug if youre over idle (about 700 rpm)

RWD vs AWD... well the 3si's AWD is FWD based... and handles as such. Also, with 10-15 more years to develop, even with the softer/smoother ride, the car will grip better (tire width is roughly smiliar... I run 245/45/17 on my VR-4... the coupe's tire width is close)

The (unuseable) back seats turn into somewhat functional seats; just don't put anyone tall in the back and you'll be fine.

You will lose some trunk space, since the G isnt a hatchback; the Z is but has a giant stabilizer bar going across the back.

Send me a PM for more details...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the G35's curb weight came in at approx. 3400 and the g37 at approx. 3600?

As for slow at 400hp, it's been discussed before. Here's a link. You can make the decision from there.

Hope this helps in your decisions.
