How do people treat leased cars?

I am sorry for such a vague question, buy how do people treat the cars they lease. Is there a interest by the person leasing the car to maintain the car and not abuse it like a rental car? Only reason I ask is I am coming across a ot of cars that are coming off their lease and the prices seem very good.

You can kinda tell though. If you look under the hood and oil is spilled everywhere and the bay is filty, or if the wheels are curbed to hell and there are scratches and dents everywhere, then it's a pretty good sign the car was not cared for as much as you'd like.

Sometimes you get lucky where the owners do give a damn and do the proper maintainence and care. I was lucky enough to score a previously leased car that look basically brand new. Granted, it had 20K miles on it, but was clean overall.

I will say that owning the car does make a difference in how you treat it. I lease an '07 IS250 and own my '06 G35x. The IS's lease is up in 2 months...and it's due for an oil change soon....but, it's 10 degrees outside. Needless to say..i'm not worried. However, my G35 needs an oil change too...and i'm already setting up to do it the next day the temp is over 30 degrees.

I Own and have a leased car and i treat the lease like my own car take care of it. But most of the people i know put 87 instead of 91 do oil changes after 5k on regular oils and just abuse it 24/7 lol

Mine was previously leased and I'm sure abused a little just because most people are idiots when it comes to maintaining a car. Visually it was in very good condition though and it's all just a gamble when it comes to buying a used car. All you can do is maintain it up to your standards going forward. Mine also has the extended warranty in case anything goes wrong.

if you bought a car off of my girlfriend, it would be scratched, dented, and curbed to hell. If you bought a car off of me it would look mint..........

Which would you rather have though? The one that has bounced limiter daily, been through 4 sets of tires and 50 refills on the bottle, and sparked infinite conversations about how nuts I am. Or would you take the one that was babied by a chick who just didn't keep it clean & perfect?

I'd like to take this time to apologize to anyone out there who bought a loaner car that I drove.........

lease vehicles can be hit or miss, my mom leased her I35, she always runs 93 & It was well maintained, so she bought it out at the end of the lease.

Like a baby treats a diaper.

j/k, I'm sure not all do. Mine's a former lease and arrived in pretty decent shape.

The thing is...I would argue that the majority of people treat all cars this way, not just leases. If you are buying used, just go ahead and assume that the former owner treated it like crap. We (people who care about cars) are in the minority.

I'm sure you're right about that, to most people cars -- even nice cars -- are just an appliance.

That's very true. None of my friends, including my wife, can understand why I'm so picky about my car.

That reminds me...just got a new door ding from some a-hole the other day. First one since I bought it last March. Drives me freakin crazy.

+1
Whether a person buys or leases for personal use, is not likely to change the way they look after it.
A car that is leased for business use is more likely to get the bare bones treatment & have tons of miles.
I don't think many Infinitii () would fall into this category though.
