High mileage '07 G35x from dealer?

Hi all,

So I've been looking for a used G35 since my 02 Maxima 6MT got mashed up a month ago. I'd prefer another 6MT, but living up north, I'd much prefer LSD or AWD and so I've been looking at potential G35X's as well. My budget is ideally below the $13k mark, but for a good deal I might go higher.

I'm looking for some input on the following:
A local dealer just listed a high mileage 07 G35X. It doesn't appear to have the premium package, but I could be wrong. There's also not much in regard to service records, so perhaps I could argue the price down with that?

KBB puts the trade-in value at $12k, private seller value at $13.5k, and the retail at $17.4k.

I'm looking for a nice comfortable and fun ride, but I put pretty low miles on my car (I'm a graduate student who takes public transit as much as possible) and do a lot of my own maintenance.

So I guess my questions:
Is this newer high mileage G35X a better option than an older model with fewer miles?
How low do you think I can push the price (and what justification can I give)?
Anything to look out for if I give it a test drive?

Thanks!

Better off getting one with lower mileage that's a couple years older.

I disagree with the above poster, the 07 G35 sedan is WAY, WAY nicer than the old sedans. the interior is beautiful and the exterior is too. this car looks super clean. if you don't put too much mileage on the car being that you use mass transit often i would definitely opt to buy this newer car over an older one with less miles.

Yeah, I think the 07 sedan is pretty sexy. I like the look much better than the previous years.

They also just dropped the price $1k... If they drop it another 1k I might have to bite. The problem is it's a "no haggle" dealership... It's been listed one month now and I believe they tend to drop their prices every 30/60/90 days. But they don't even know what the car has (as far as I can tell it's fully loaded).

...Hrm... 07 AWD or an older 6MT sport coupe... I don't think I'll find an older coupe to my liking any time soon haha.

that 07 you listed is absolutely beautiful. 116k miles is not that high for a nissan either, especially from 2007 where a good amount of those should be highway miles. i would absolutely opt for this car over an older model sedan. i actually think the older g35 sedans are butt ugly, whereas this newer sedan is gorgeous.

Yeah. And I usually HATE the wood trim but it actually looks pretty nice on this one...

I'm basically sitting on my hands waiting for them to drop the price a bit. I can afford it, but I really don't want to pay that much for a car at this point :-)

I have to say this is a nice car... did you notice the water/ liquid under the car? I am sure that is just water...

I would see if they could drop 500 instead of waiting for the 1000 drop

To be brutally honest, i'd either A. up your price range, or B. buy an older sedan with lower miles.

That car is a rip off. I am looking at 07s with 40-50k for 5k more, and 70-80k for 1-2k more and i don't know about you, but i'd rather have less miles and spend a bit more for a bit more car.

My friend is currently buying an 03 G sedan with a 6spd for 10k OTD. The car has 82k. You can get an 05/06 sedan (nav, bluetooth, etc) with 35-60k for that same price of 14-16k.

Also, Walser dealers blow. I'd definitely keep shopping around.

But at the same time, $5K more is 33% more expensive. If you can find a lower mile one in the area for less, I'd be very interested but I haven't found any. I've been searching craigslist, cars.com, autotrader, and carsoup.

03's are everywhere, but they're horrible for the weather up here. I test drove a few and it was downright annoying with the RWD and lack of LSD. I thought my FWD 02 Maxima sucked in the snow, then I drove an 03 G35 6MT. Even my brother's boat (Lincoln MKVIII) drives better in the snow.

The only 05+'s I can find with the miles you talk about (I've been searching 500 miles) and the price range you mention are either automatic/base with no options or salvage titles. If I have to ditch the 6MT I at least want AWD. I know, I'm picky :-)

Patience is a virtue and all, but I do need a car at least by the first week of April (been looking for a little over a month now).

Have you drove a RWD with snow tires yet? The VDC systems work very well in this car and I got through this winter with 0 issues whatsoever. Hell, my car outperformed my friends AWD with crappy Falken all seasons. He can vouch for that to.

Are you only looking for a coupe 6mt or an AWD 2nd gen then?

that stinks!

just keep in mind when buying a used car to thoroughly check its history. carfax is garbage, use autocheck instead. the best option is to get a mechanic to inspect it first.

I grew up in this stuff (looks like you're from Fargo? I grew up there, then 5 years in upstate NY and now Minnie). I'm fine so long as I'm moving. But I'm sick and tired of getting stuck on flat ground and two inches of snow. My Max did it all the time and the 03's I drove were the same way. Not to mention the constant slipping on wet asphalt (and I wasn't even pushing it that hard).

In general I'm looking for an 04+ sport 6MT (coupe or sedan) or a 2nd gen AWD. Beyond that, tan interior is a non-starter. I had that in my max and I loath it. I have a month to find a car.. Worst case, I settle and buy a super cheap junker which honestly will get me through the next few years anyway.

Yeah, I've got that covered. Half my family works in/owns shops, so I just send them the VINs (though they're too far away to check the cars).
