You can probably get some more out of them for the trade, depends on how much time you have... I was in a similar situation when I went to purchase my G, and I went in with the mindset that they're there to make money, and they will screw you. The only thing is how badly you get screwed. After 3 afternoons, I got the dealership to give me $2400 for a 93 Camry w/ 230K, rust, holes drilled everywhere and bad paint that was KBB valued at $250 (it was during break for school, if I was out of school with a job this would probably have not been worth it). Sooner or later they should cave and give you a better offer.

Well, don't know the specifics of your situation but what they usually do is give you an extra grand or 2 for your trade-in, but then only come down a couple hundred bucks on the car they are selling. Or, vice versa, they'll come down a couple grand on the car they are selling but screw you on your trade in. Whenever you trade in a car for a new one the best way is to settle on a price for the car you are buying and then talk about trade-in value of your old one. Bottom line is if you want the most out of your old car, sell it private party.

You will never get that from the dealer. They offered me 20k for my 08 G37S. And i'm still under the factory warranty. Prices came down....a lot

Seems like a low-ball offer. When I was hunting for a car, I only found a few 08's listed below $30k and most of those were around $28k. Which was funny because I could find 07's listed as low as $17k (high miles though).

A generic 'rule of thumb' is that cars are worth 50% of their retail value after 5 years.

Paid $18,900 plus taxes for my 2006 coupe (6MT) with 17,300 on the clock. Original owner was a 60 yr old lady who very rarely drove it. Also purchased the 4yr 60k Infiniti Elite warranty for $1290. Here in FL low mileage G coupes are hard to come by & are very desireable.

OK, a few points I'd like to make (my 2 cents, if you will) from being a car guy for 20+ years:

1) DON'T use KBB. It's worthless and is owned/run by car DEALERS. Ever wonder why trade-in values are super low, "private party" values are meager at best, and the almightly dealer retail values are sky high?
Banks/credit unions/loaning institutions use NADA (and blackbook).
For example, my credit union loans on NADA retail values. Some banks only loan on trade-in or loan value (which could be as much as 30-40% different in some cases).

2) You have to consider the dealership you are working with. Is it a dealership that sells fewer cars but has to make more $$$$ on each car (typically, your manufacturer dealerships are like this (Honda, Nissan, Toyota, etc) OR are they are volume dealer that sells a lot more vehicles per month with less profit on each car? The first example tends to offer less for your car (unless perhaps they have an exact buyer already lined up for your car).
Are you bringing your Infiniti to an Infiniti dealer? Obviously, you are likely to get more for it there than vs. a Kia dealer. This can also make a difference combined with #3 below...

3) Location, location, location: Much of the value comes from your area and the MARKET VALUE of vehicles therein. Example: I used to sell honda preludes and CRX's on the side a few years ago here in NC. These cars bring strong $$$ here in my area (especially clean, original, low mileage units, esp. "SI's".) I would routinely sell these cars for well above KBB or NADA values, because that's what the market will bear in my area.
I had a kid call me and say "I saw on KBB where your car is worth $950 so that's all I'm going to offer". I would politely reply, "well, I can appreciate that, but if you can find one in as good of shape as mine for that money, please buy it (knowing they won't). I sold this "$950 car for $2200, btw

4) Dealerships (or "Stealerships" as is usually more appropriate) are in business for one reason only....TO MAKE MONEY. Interestingly, each department makes money on each other. The sales dept. has to pay the service department to install that bodykit/foglights/sunroof wind deflector/ you want, then they (sales dept) has to pay the parts department for those extras, which is why YOU (consumer) ends up being charged like $200 for $49 mudguards, or $750 for $150 foglights.

Another example: A local dealership near me (I won't say which one) would charge a fee for a "car care/protection" package, which isn't much more than a waxing and paint protection applied to the car. Most cars this fee was about $399. However, for the "new" model cars (or ones that are hot sellers) they would charge $799.....for the EXACT SAME THING.
Why?
Because they can, and most buyers aren't savvy enough to catch it (or protest it).

Anyway, hope this helps

There are 08 G37 Coupes selling here locally for $23k. Granted they are base cars, but that still shows the prices for them. Most dealers here list their G37S for 25-29, but I can bet money they get less than 25k for them when it comes time for them to leave the lot. I can buy a brand new G37S (2011) for $38k right now from my local Infiniti dealer. Selling brand new cars for cheaper will kill the used car market as well. It really doesn't affect me, because I will probably hold on to my car for a while as long as Infiniti steps up and fixes the issues I'm having with it.

Fyi, 07 was old body and 08 was new body G35/G37. Redisigned bodies are always worth more, most don't want to pay much for an 07 when an 03 with 19s, projectors and 06+tails looks the same hehe

i bought my 2005 g35 coupe last year for $18k with 24000 miles and went to possibly trade it in for a Nismo Sedan with 50k miles they were asking $16k for and they were willing to make a straight trade with me. so technically i wouldve gotten what i paid for my car minus the taxes i paid.

hmm just checked my cars value on nada and kbb. BIG DISCREPANCY.

04 coupe 115k miles, all options except nav
kbb has my car at 12k for good condition to private party
nada has my car at 16k for clean title retail.

considering i paid 16.5k back in 2008, im not sure which one to believe. i would never sell my car(impossible with all my mods) but id like to know which would be correct if i ever need to value my car to a insurance company.
