Trade in values are a joke!!

It used to be that dealers would give you roughly what KBB said the trade in value is on your car. I went to three different dealers who offered me $14,000 for my immaculate 06 DG 6MT coupe with 44k. KBB said trade in value was $18,875. When the first dealer told me $14,000, I jumped up and said "you're f**kin crazy!" Apparently they will only offer you what they can buy one at auction for. I was looking at an 08 4 door Tundra at a local Kia dealership and the dealer said nobody will buy a used car (my G) for $20,000 when they could buy a brand new Kia Forte Coupe. These Motherf**kers are out of their minds. Slimey ba$tards!

^........and that's why you don't trade in to a dealer. Either you get screwed on the trade in value or you get screwed on the purchase price.

You'll always get plenty more selling private party and keeping the two transactions separate.

Sounds fair. If KBB value is 18k, a dealer still needs to make money. 14k sounds like a good offer.

KBB trade in value is $18750, not resale, meaning that is what you can expect to recieve from the dealer. If I were to trade they would sell my car for 20 grand plus the profit from the new vehicle I would be purchasing. They could possibly make 9-10 grand profit. F**k them.

FYI, I just bought an 06 Coupe 6MT loaded w/ Nav for $16,500 (it was listed at $18.5 though). Prices are coming down, they're not holding high like they were a few years ago. KBB values get fuzzy on 5 year old cars.

^^^ Like he said. The value of your car is not nearly as high as you think. 14k is a pretty good offer from a dealer. I have seen many 05-06 G35s go for 16-18k. No way a dealer will get 20k for it. You can buy a 08 G37 for 24k.

14k might be slightly low, but not much. 15k would be a perfect trade in offer.

Wow. A dealer offered me around 21.4k(Can't recall exactly) for my 07' 38k mile coupe. It was the exact value that NADA says my car was worth too. Needless to say, i was quite surprised lol

^^^ Agreed.......While I understand that it sucks you can't get more for a trade-in, but you have realize that car dealerships are a business and they need to make money. Every car they take as trade-in probably needs at LEAST a few hundred$$ worth of work, maybe more, it has to be washed, pay comission to the salesmen, taxes, etc.....all of a sudden what most people think is a huge profit margin dwindles down to a small amount.

And no, I don't work for a dealership!!!

Outta curiosity, I just looked up trade-in and private party value for my 07. Trade-in says $23,800 and private party says $26,235. Nice, considering I paid $29 almost 2 years ago and only owe 19k.

I just did a nation wide search on Autotrader.com for 06 G35 coupes under 45k with a maximum price of $19,000. Only 8 results nation wide and they all were not fully loaded. I'm selling mine for 19 grand. Yes you can find less expensive ones but they will not have low miles and be in near perfect condition. If you do find one cheap , low miles, great shape that hasn't been thrashed or modded all the more power to you.

Trade the G and take a loss. Just face it.

I bought my G new in 2006 for $39k OTD premium/nav/6mt. It's been paid off for 3 years and there's is no way in hell I would trade this car in just because of the loss I would take. I learned my lesson. Definitely NEVER buying a brand new car again. I was dumb.
