tiptronic auto?
tiptronic auto?
Im about to buy myself a g35 sedan. I would prefer a manual but the only one for sale near me is very high mileage
I was wondering if anyone had any input on the tiptronic feature of the automatic (or whatever infiniti calls theirs) is there a way to make it shift harder and faster? how high is the maintenance compared to a regular auto? how much of a loss in performance will i see compared to the manual? What about fuel economy compared to the manual? any input would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I have a 05 Coupe with the auto-tiptronic....
don't know if there's a way to make it shift harder/faster....
I do know it doesn't respond as fast as I'd like it to... has an override when slowing down and while doing 35mph it seems like it isn't sure where it needs to be.
I use it on the highway to leave it in 5th so it doesn't keep downshifting when i pass cars and probably helps gas milage, but gas milage #'s are all over with this car based on how much lead's in your foot.

Yeah i heard theres a pretty big delay between hitting the shifter and the transmission actually shifting. I went to test drive one and it was definitely true. have you had any problems with yours?
Transgo sells a valve body upgrade kit for the automatic that improves shifts...makes them a lot harder and faster.
Manuals typically have about 15hp more than the automatic in our cars...
If the auto tranny is serviced (fluids) it will be a lot less maintenance than a manual tranny on any car.
Best advice, wait it out and find a manual. All auto g35's have MM or automatic shift mode.

No just makes faster shifts. Its a world of difference after install. It mainly helps with the 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th shifts. Best mod I did to the car.

Oh ok sweet
Here's my two cents (I own a AT sedan)
MT Sedans are hard to find. I tried to wait for one but couldn't any longer so I pulled the trigger on the auto. I can often get stuck in 45 min bumper to bumper traffic so thats why I settled for the auto as well.
The manual shift mode is decent. But you cannot rapidly change gears, once you shift, you need to wait for the car to shift (second maybe), wait maybe half a second more, then shift again. So in all you're probably taking around 2-3 seconds if you wanted to shift 2 gears.
I drove a 2010 I believe toyota camry 4 cylinder and even that car has a better manual shift mode/transmission. 6 speed, can rapidly change gears and can be at any gear at any speed, unlike the G. (I wish the G had that transmission lol)
