G35 as first car
#16
I still own my first car...which is a Modified 5.0 Mustang. Needless to say I got raped on insurance and worked to simply support my car. I paid over $3k/year for insurance. My parents contributed minimally to my vehicle expenses.
I'm 32 now....so that $3k would prob be nearly $4k today with inflation. Fortunately I have collector car insurance today for it.
However, insurance will be your biggest expense. Followed by gas.
Sedans are cheaper to insure, and are basically the same car with two more doors. Yeah they don't look cool, but you'll fly under the radar with cops as well.
Expenses? I drive 25k/year and in maintainence I prob spend $500/year. Most of that is oil and other fluid changes, wipers, filters, etc. brakes and tires are more expensive, but don't come up as often. The car overall is fairly reliable in terms of drivetrain, but you'll have little annoying things pop up now and then

As for reliability, people will hound you with things like window motors and brake wear. But what are you to expect? Pay nothing to maintain?

Yeah but who cares what the little boi ricers with their coupes think. Besides I always got more compliments on my sedan than my friend did on his coupe especially from the females

Hello, I'm 17 and probably going to, finally, have my licenses in january 2014. I have been working for more than 2 years to save money for my first car, I'm probably going to have around 18k by the time I get my licenses.
I have searched for lots of cars, and lately I have been thinking of getting a G35 (I prefer, by far, the coupe). I would get a 2005-07 with less than 100k km (60k miles), probably around 80k. It would cost me around 12k. So my question is, how much am I going to spend over a couple years for repairs, maintenance, gas, insurance and other stuff, and would I be able to keep it for let's say 5 years? I heard tires and brakes had to be changed often and tires are very costly. Also keep in mind that I live in Canada, and we get quite a lot of snow at winter so RWD could be a problem.
