Looking at 03 sedan with 181k on the clock (turned out to be a turd...)
Hi, all.
Found a 03 sedan in, what looks like, a decent condition. Talked the guy down to $2800. From what I know the only thing that's "wrong" with it, is the radio quit working. From a limited research, it looks like I will have to get a metra kit and an aftermarket unit to fix this.
Wondering if the suspension is shot at this mileage? I wouldn't mind replacing at least the front struts at this point, as well as any ball joints/tie-rods. Anything I should be looking at in the drive-train compartment? Would the timing chain components still be ok?
Any words of wisdom are greatly appreciated.

181K miles is a lot of miles.
Did he provide you any sort of history as to repairs/maintenance?
The price of the car is good, but you can easily soak another $2K or so into maintenance if you find all the bushings, shocks/struts and other items need to be addressed.
So if it does cost you $2K for repairs and such, is that $4K better off applied to a car in better condition with lower miles?
I'm not against high mileage cars. My own car has 171K on it, but I also know what sort of work and repairs I needed to get here.

Ended up getting an '03 with $140k on it for $3500 today. It needs new tires, stereo, and some brake pads in the rear. Overall much, much better condition than the one this thread was started for. I can't post in classifieds yet, but do let me know if you have a metra kit and/or singled/double din HUs.
Thanks again!

Few pics from the ad:
If it was in immaculate condition, I'd drop around $5k on it, but it does have some exterior blemishes, and several interior ones as well.
Scored a complete metra kit today. Still looking for a decent BT-enabled 1 or 2 din HU. Also trying to pick up a good set of used Turanza Serenity Plus tires (8-9/32s) for a few hundred. She will see the road soon enough.

I paid twice as much for an 06 G sedan with 100k on the clock. However, there are beater Gs being sold locally for 5-7k. For some reason, the southwest area seems to call for higher prices on the G.

Thanks, man. I've had to care for a '97 Infinit I30 before, so somewhat familiar with the family. Currently have a '99 ZX2 (first love) that's going under for a turbo transplant, and daily a 5th gen Subaru Legacy that will, hopefully, find a good home soon.First RWD car, tho
