What should I be paying for satellite radio?

I just put down a deposit on a 2006 G35 6MT. We eventually settled on $2000 over invoice. Not great, but acceptable (obviously).

Now the inevitable padding of the bill has started, I think: I want to get satellite radio, which is a dealer installed option. They told me "we'll install it for our cost of $400, rather than the usual $589."

Well, the invoice prices are $302 invoice and $350 MSRP. Am I right to expect these amounts to include installation? What's next, a fee to "install" the floor mats?

I paid 285 for my OEM kit(inc. new small ant. and window moulding) from a dealer/friend in Atlanta. Cost me an aditional 40 bucks for the install at a local car stereo place. Hope this helps.

satellite radio was quoted @ 646 for me. i didn't want it that bad. i might opt for it later but i'll probably follow g35ipod.com's instructions...

What I was told--which may or may not be correct--was that the 6MT coupes are relatively scarce. I got about the same price from two dealers.

It sounds like inflating the price of the satellite radio is common.

Are you ordering the car? Or buying one thats scheduled to come to the dealer without the sat radio? If you are ordering the car ( meaning its gonna be built to ur specs at the factory) you should pay $302 best case, and 350$ worst case, not a penny more. You are already paying 2K over invoice! If its already on the lot or about to be on the lot and didnt have the Sat on it from the port, its about 600$ to have it dealer installed. Anything less is a good deal.

Interesting...I thought it was always a dealer-installed option, but apparently not. Anyway, the car is currently in the port, and doesn't have satellite on it yet. From what you say, I guess I should accept the price of $400 to add it.

By the way, the fact that it's in the port wasn't disclosed until after I agreed to buy it. They gave me a story about how it was "in another state," requiring them to send a flatbed truck for it, absorbing the $800 cost (and as a result refusing my previous offers of $1500 and then $1750 over invoice). I assume that if it's in the port the dealer isn't truly paying extra to transport it, above the destination charge already paid by the customer.

I think SAT can be port installed, and thats whats done when you order a car with SAT. If you decide to add it at the dealers, thats when you pay the extra dough. I guess the labor at the ports must be cheap Also you shouldnt pay anything to have it transported, especially since its at the port. Stealerships are so shady, I called a local one to find out the price for the all season rubber floor mats which have msrp of 76$ on the Inifniti website and they qouted me 140$ plus tax!!!! I was laughing so hard I had to hang up on the guy. His reason was " if you read the fine print it says that dealership sets actual price." I got a loaded 06 coupe for 2% over invoice, I wasnt about to pay 100% markup on some rubber mats that I can get at walmart for 30$.

if it's at the port, then you shouldn't have to pay any shipping charges and they shouldn't be b*tching about it either. that's the point of the destination charge. i had my dealership sell me some story about a car that was due to another dealership from the port and they wanted to either drive from there to my dealership or charge me $180 for getting it trucked in. i ended up caving and paid for the trucking since i didn't want ANYONE driving my car during the break-in period but me.

Ive gotten 2 very different answers to this. When i was negotiating with one dealer, they said sat will add 5 bucks to my lease price each month, so i assumed it was based on that 350 option price.

When i actually closed the deal from this other dealer, it was 895 option, including installation. I politely turned him down, i think i laughed at him.

I ordered the kit online for 263, includes the antenna.

They emailed me the instructions and i can see why they wanted to charge 895, installing the antenna on the roof looks like a PITA.
I plan on sticking the antenna on the inside on the rear package deck, and that looks much easier.

Alot of ppl have installed this option themselves, and there are alot of articles online, so dont pay the hi dealer prices.
