2006 or just-announced new 2007?

I posted a reply in a thread on the coupe forum about this, but since it involves buying...How do people feel about buying the 2006, when the redesigned 2007 is going to be shown at the NY Auto Show in April? I have a 2006 on order, but I'm starting to think about cancelling.

Well if you can stand to wait until April, until the next gen g35 is released and we know the new specs, then I would just wait and see. Otherwise just get the '06, either way I am sure you would be very happy. Just my opinion.

dont forget you dont want a car in the first year of re-design... so yer looking at an 08...he he.
I dont regret getting my 06 at all, its like computers, silly to fret over new technology.
Im sure the 07 will be sweet, will be one of the first in line since to check it out, since i live in ny. My only disapointment will be if they make it super nice and keep it the same price, but i suspect if there are much imporvements, they will increase the price. Since the g has been such a success for them though, i dont expect too many drastic changes/improvements.

btw, why are you waiting on an 06? Dealers in my area are swimming in them.

They tell me there's only one Athens blue 6MT with premium and nav in the country, and that it will be another two weeks to get it (I put down the deposit about 10 days ago). Whether that's true or not is anyone's guess.

Gotcha. Athens Blue is sweet. Wife really wanted a blue car, but in the sedans, the lake shore and twi blue are a little wierd. Ones too light, the others too dark, almost black.
Man if I could get Athens on my sedan I guess I would wait too. Why are navi cars so hard to find? Only reason i got the 06 was they couldnt find any 05 navi cars.
So hang tight and just get the 06 car.
It must be hard waiting for yer car now, imagine going 1.5+ years, Id lose my friggin mind.

If it's 1.5+ years, I agree. But if the new models are being unveiled in April (actually, I've now read that the sedan and a "prototype" coupe will be in Detroit in January), it may be more like 6-8 months. Also, if I buy the G35 now, it will likely spend much of the snowy winter months in the garage.

I'm wavering, but I'm on the verge of calling off the purchase. I suppose that will **** off the dealer, which I feel bad about, but that's not really a reason to buy a car.

Two questions, which I hope someone can answer for me:

1) Does Infiniti have any history of releasing new or significantly updated models at some time other than in the fall? In other words, how likely is it that they'll follow the pattern of the new 3-series BMW, which was unveiled during the winter auto shows, and then became available by late spring or early summer?

2) I have a $1000 deposit with my dealer. If I tell them I want to cancel the order, can they say the deposit isn't refundable? I would plan on offering to have them hold on to it to reserve the right to buy the 2007 (which would be probably have to be at MSRP), but what if they don't go for that and I ask for the money back?

According to the salesman I spoke to at Grubbs awhile back, your $1,000 deposit is completely refundable.

This whole 2007 release is making me iffy about either buying a 2006 or 2005 model right now.

I wonder with the redesign for 2007, if the 2003-2006 G35's will depreciate much faster now in the used car market?

The G35's hold their value exceptionally well right now....compared to the 350Z's at least.

Another thing to think about (if you're financing all/part of the car), is what will interest rates be by the time that newer body style is out? My Credit Union's rates just went up 0.25%.

I ended up cancelling the 2006 (by e-mail; I'm not sure yet what the salesperson's reaction will be). I'm hoping the 2007, to be introduced in April 2006, will be available by July or so. If the unlikely happens and I hate the new model, the 2006s should be available on the cheap by then.

If its available by July, then def wait, but i think you guys are being awfully optimistic on that availability date.

I dont think you will see product until oct/nov at the earliets, just my 2 cents.

X cars could be even later than that...

Back to topic though, theres not much in my 06x car that i dont love. Could be a little quieter, and better gase mileage, and more power never hurts, but theres really nothing in the car that i find wanting. Only thing that'll blow my mind... awd coupe for 07. If it requires killing someon, i'd prob do it.

Can always wait for something better, but the current g's are pretty friggin sweet. Remember that the price for waiting, you are not enjoying that sweet ride right now.

This is the same conundrum with big screen tvs, waiting is always better, but at what cost?

You may be right, but my theory is that manufacturers don't announce replacement models way ahead of time, or it ends up choking off sales of the current model for too long. Entirely new models, on the other hand, tend to get shown earlier in order to create excitement.

I look at it as a 1.5 year wait for the new coupe. The new IS debuted in March and didn't go on sale till October. And everybody knows the sedan comes out first. We havent even seen the IS coupe or 3 series coupe yet for that matter. So I think if you wait for a new G35 coupe you might be waiting for a while.

I just sold my Altima on ebay and was planning on getting a 06 but I didnt think that the redesign would come until 08. So now im just gonna drive my Pathfinder and wait for the 07's to come out. I dont think that there will really be that many bugs since its more of a redesign of the current platform instead of a totally new one.

I don't think that's much of an issue here...
After all they'll be fixing a lot of the current problem areas
