Ordering a G vs buying one on the lot

The one i want (color and options) isnt in soCal. Dont really mind waiting but how does this work normally? I assume i have to put a deposit down to order the car. Is that deposit refundable if i choose to get another car or even not buy at all? Also im already quoted at 350 above invoice at my local dealership but they would have to trade for one ( that is close to my spec) so ordering one shouldnt be more right...maybe less ?

If you are patient, then ordering one is the way to go. Should cost the same, but some dealerships aren't as willing to deal since they aren't getting rid of any inventory. I don't believe the deposit is refundable, since once they order it, it has to be started building in japan. Thats the whole point of the deposit. The advantages of ordering one is that the car will not have been "washed" multiple times while sitting on the lot to accumulate scratches etc, and the dealer doesn't have time to mount liscense plates etc if you didn't want holes in the front of your G. These are things you have to specifically request that you don't want though so they don't install them anyways.
I would tell them that you want to pick up the car before they do anything to it, and wash it yourself when you get it home, since you can do a better job at preventing scratches etc. I'm in the process of looking for a G35, and I'm considering ordering one just so the finish is in better condition when I recieve it.

nope once i order a car from japan it's non-refundable. special orders usually take between 2 - 4 months so if you can wait it's no big deal.

hmm. only difference from the exact one that i want and whats in stock is that the one in stock has RAS. So question is just buy it! or save up for 2-4 months and also get it a little cheaper without RAS... god dammit i hate being an impulse buyer!

At my local GM dealership the deposit is 100% refundable. I ordered a C6, and decided not to buy it and they gave me my deposit back. I don't know of Nissan/Infiniti works, but I would assume they would be similiar.

drive the coupe with RAS. personally, i don't like it b/c the steering is very quick compared to just a regular coupe. it's something to get used to but it is a noticeable feature.

Deposit is 100% refunded here at Infiniti as well as VW dealers.

06 MT
Premium Package
Navigation
RAS
Aero package
Invoice Price (from edmunds) : 36,934
Dealer quoted price : 37,284 ( 350 over invoice)

so RAS is 646 invoice which would make the price 36683 from the dealer. In the grand scheme of things i guess the 650 would make much of a difference .. plus in some wierd way i figure themore options i get for the flat rate of 350 over invoice the better right?... since the markup is spread out among more options? lol words of an impulse buyer!

i'll look into that but it's just the width of the rim that can be the issue.
