First thing Rogers does is teach their employees to lie (my apologies to hard working Rogers/Fido emps, but my past experiences with Rogers have left me a bit soured...)

Romeo's pricing in accurate however that is in USD.

akrus made some good points but I'm sure that there will be 3rd party appz that will allow for remote locking etc, like there is for the Palm OS

Even though this is released exclusively to Cingular first in the US we may have the option of purchasing it straight from Apple at a premium price if you really want it before it is released to the CAN market (rogers and fido), and yes, those unlocked ones from apple directly will be unbranded by the carrier. This is what i did with my Treo 650 2-3 years ago. I was in the first batch of released 650's back then, that were only offered in the US. I purchased it straight from PalmOne and it was unlocked and paid a HUGE price. Then 6 months later, it was offered at Rogers, the cheapest of their plans being around $699 with a three year plan. Still alot. I paid a little over $800 for exclusive rights in Canada (before any carrier had it over here). I was following it for about 1 year before release hahahaha

I agree with soft keys being a concern for when emailing and texting. The feel as well as the sensitivity of it has to really be astounding to sell a product like that to a power user. I believe it will have an impact mainly towards the "new to users in this market" users more than existing power users.

One main thing that I really am skeptical about is the functionality of the phone aspect of it. Apple has been well established in the hardware/software MAC, MP3 market etc., but they are new to the communications sector (namely phone). Users who turn to smart phones (well this was not market as a smart phone, so it is not) make the change because they want to eliminate two devices (PDA an phone), and if you are going to do that, and IMO, u would like it to be a Phone FIRST and then PDA, and not the other way around. Again, dont think that this is meant to be a smart phone, but it will have an effect in that already saturated market because on the first day of announcment, stocks in PalmOne, Motorola and RIM all dropped.

If u want an MP3 player that has a phone then maybe this is a good device. This may very well be a Nano with a phone (still cool if u ask me)

IMO, i would wait for all the bugs to be fixed in the first year or so as well as see if it is a phone first and then PDA (if that is what u require).

I wonder how it will snyc to Exchange etc? I assume External conduits but how stable?

I dont know guys, sorry for the rambling. HAHAHAHA. Don't flame me. I was just giving some food for thought (more like a FEAST for thought). hahahaha

I like to let people think as well as myself.

If Apple came up with BES-type-functionality, I would toss my crackberry...unlikely, but what I'm hoping is that RIM really steps up to respond to Apple.

And more than likely, they will. This is a push for RIM and PalmOne to come out from hiding and listen to our complaints and actually do something about it. Ever complain about a product and when the next gen comes out, it has the same quirks and problems?

I think the biggest feature of the iPhone is the screen. It's huge. It will make web browsing much nicer than on 99% of the available phones out there.

The mp3 in a phone has been done and I don't think it's needed. Those that love their iPod will like this, but it will be interesting to see what it does to sales of the iPod.

As for how it will get email, it's POP or IMAP - both far inferior solutions to RIMs push. I'm willing to bet that it's going to be a bandwidth hog, unlike the blackberry.

With regards to locking the device, that comes nowhere near to the BB's ability to remotely wipe.

Also, speaking from a corporate standpoint, I wish phone manufacturers would give a "phone delete" option in their offerings. This is another area that RIM has paid attention to in that only their new Pearl has a camera.

Apple is also saying that the OS will be locked down and I wonder whether 3rd party apps may be possible.

Oh yeah for sure. From a corporate standpoint the BB is much more well versed in this area as their compression and push technology is what makes them a successor in this sector.

Again, comes down to each individuals needs and wants I suppose.

If you are a heavy corporate user that depends on emails etc and business functionality, then BB it is.

If u are a user that needs a phone first and foremost with PDA functionality and is interactive and yet allows successful business appz to be used then maybe a Palm, HP, Motorola, etc.

If you need an ipod that can make calls (nano has 4 Gig and 8 Gig), then iPhone it is .

And if 3rd party appz will not be allowed, that will really limit the usage of that device.
