That would seem to be your problem, bro.....Try downshifting at a lower speed and use the brakes more to slow the car.

Service brakes apply mostly at the front where most of the load is, whereas engine braking is applied at the rear where there's very little load.

Take care

I am getting about 450 km per tank 100% city driving. Odometer just passed 1,000 km, so I am hoping this will improve.

Won't be by much.. maybe another 50KM

really depends how you drive, if you regulary shift after 3000 RPM you'll get less milleage... this is just from my own experience

Well in my 2003.5 6MT Sedan, I have been consistantly getting between 675 - 700KM per tank this winter with about 70% Highway and 30% city driving...

I use the cruise at all times on the highway though, so my speed/rpm are consistant.

That's all about rev matching....
If you don't blip the throttle to match your revs (or even a little higher)...
It's the same effect as applying brakes to the rear wheels *only* = fishtail & loss of control.

Like Colin says.. be much more conservative in winter conditions.
It's critical to do your braking & down shifting in a straight line *before* you turn.

Holy ! I can't get anywhere near 450kms/tank on highway during the winter. What tires/mods/speeds etc. are you running?

Well no mods at all....

I drive mostly through the "country" on the highways, so the posted speed limit is 80KMH, but I usually set the cruise at around 90KMH....in the city it's pretty much stop and go for about 15 KM.

I'm running on my winter rims/tires right now....16" steelies with 215/60/16 tires.

My commute is about 115KM each way everyday.

I do 90% highway (20 min each way) and 10% city and my last tank was 412 km on 55 liters. I would love to see how someone is getting 700 km in the winter.

How low are you guys letting your fuel levels get before filling? I normally refill with 1/3rd remaining, but this past tank I let it slip a bit further.

Without knowing how many liters your burning through to get that mileage, it's really not possible to tell. Any idea as to how many liters you put in when you filled up?

+1

All these posts about kms per tank aren't very meaningful or accurate.

I have a major problem with my fuel economy....would you believe that I am averaging 200 km/tank (65 L). It is cold here in Edmonchuk right now, and I let the car warm up about 5 minutes. 100% city driving. I can't figure it out since I get about 600 - 650 km/tank when I drive on the highway. Can city driving net that much of a loss in the winter? I have never gotten better than about 380 km/tank in the city in the summer either. Is there a chance there is something wrong with my car despite the reasonable mileage on the highway?

Only had the car a couple of weeks, but looks like about 450-500 in mixed winter driving. My commute includes some 80-100km/h stretches so mileage improves there. Cold and snowy here in Calgary right now, so I expect with shorter warm-ups and less wheelspin, I'll do a bit better. My sedan has 67,000 km on it, so it's well-broken-in.

I have a 2003 G35 M6 coupe.. the first 2k were the worst, starting around 16L/100km and then flattening out to 13L/100km at around 10k. Slightly higher in the winter (14L/100km), and better in the summer(11-12L/100km). I'd say I do about 60-70% city driving by distance with lots of really short trips (10 minute commute). Last fill up was the worst though, clocked in at 16.4L/100km over 217 km of 100% city driving in the coldest weather we've had in a long time (-15C air temp).

13L/100km works out to about 550km on a 72L tank if you run it dry.

And yes, I have a spreadsheet with a record of every fill up...
