Pothole Rant

You read in the papers all about the Alberta advantage and the prosperity here, yet Edmonton looks like the Beirut airport, there are so many holes in the streets. Its absolutely ******* ridiculous.

I am not typically a political activist but I am going to get involved in the next civic election. These a$$wipes preoccupy themselves with issues like a new coliseum or dog and cat licenses while the roadways crumble to dust. Now for my friends in other parts of Canada, if you think I am exagerating, ask anyone who has visited here this spring. I have never seen a major city anywhere in North America with streets as bad. This City is a giant pile of crap and our City Council is responsible. They should be run off.

For anyone thinking of coming here, save yourselves and don't. This is not where you want to live, trust me. Edmonton has turned into a giant $hithole.

It will cost about that The streets are in the condition they are in because the idiots in charge did not remove the snow and left giant wind-rows which when melting and freezing busted up the roadways. I will bet that the $ 15M saved in snow removal did at least a $ 1Billion in road damage. That is probably a low estimate.

Don't feel too bad. The roads here in T.O. are just as bad. Potholes, uneven patches all over the place, cracks, it's just appalling. The City is so behind in road work that it will take them 10 years to catch up. And that's only if they have the money, which they don't. Report in the paper today says that if the Province doesn't give the City more money, it will be bankrupt next year. And then they spend $6 million or something like that to renovate offices in City Hall, not to mention re-designing the grounds around City Hall. You think Edmonton is crumbling, try Toronto.

+1 on that togee.

Front st and bloor st comes to mind. Bloor/Yonge is suppose to be this high end posh place...but the roads are beyond horrible. And front street being one of the first street most people see coming into DT (via union station, or even from the gardiner) is a ripped up piece of crap. Might as well have gravel roads around dt :S

what really pissed me off was that last year they closed half of front street off for some sewage work or something, ripping up the roads. Rather than taking the oppurtunity to fix it up right, they did a crappy patch job and the road is now worse off than it use to be.

I wonder how super car owners cope with these crappy roads.

sorry for the rant, just had to let it out.

i was cruising around on my bike over the weekend... and i had the unfortunate pleasure of riding on st. clair. it felt as though i was on a mechanical bull ride.

sorry about the roads in alberta. just think... u'll have even more chaos/dust once they start closing the roads for repairs.

This is an whole other topic. I actually find that I get around faster in the winter because of all the road closures in the summer.
