While there is a definite problem with system in Mexico;
A BIG part is traveling smart.
Don't put yourself in vulnerable situations.

Like Wayne says... that applies to Toronto as well.

Many Mexican officials are corrupt.

Regarding the incident, by no means am I going to assume what happened. As far as im concerned, its still under investigation.

And whats with the paranoya here? You might be in more danger walking in the streets on downtown Toronto or downtown L.A than in a touristic city in Mexico. Trust me, I've been to all 3.

most of my friends have been to mexico more than once... all guys in our early twenties.. and they have a lot of fun with the girls down there and tell me the guys there cause problems mostly cuz of this reason..
WE are not mad at you guys. I remember when I was in Mazatlan and 200 candian women came into town....My buddies and I thank you. if you really think that the mexicans that live in Mexico are all broke, you're amoron as there really is no middle class in Mexico anymore and the wealthy probably have more money than yourself as they own their own homes,cars and actually have better lives than people in other countries.(USA and Canada)

I don't know how this happened but I can tell you guys that one of the problems with tourist is that they don't take the necessary procutions when traveling. the one thing you don't do is be too flashy(jewels,money) and I think this applies in any country, don't become a target.

I have been in many of the tourist traps in Mexico and realize how some tourist just set themselves up for trouble. starting with the young crowds that come down to Mexico and act as thou they own the country and want to create their own rules. everytime I am down in Mexico, I stuff enough cash in my pockets to buy the essentials and the rest is either in my socks or un my crotch and behave as thou I was in the states, show respect for all not try to throw my weight(wealth, not that I have any) but in Mexico standard is different.

Sounds about right. You can't be warned enough. No matter where you go to vacation, do not throw your weight around because your *** will be handed to you.

I guess if you consider the thousands that go there and the few incidents -- however bad -- you hear of, your chances of coming back alive are good if you keep your nose clean. Just been a few high-profile incidents recently that are making us think twice.

Staying clean is the first point. there have been high profile incidents in Miami,LA. I know how my country is, the goverment is corrupt and may have even had something to do with the recent accounts(cover-up) I still feel Mexico is one of the safest compared to other Latin Countries..you won't see me going to COlumbia,El salvador but would consider Argentina.

When I was alot younger, I was kinda of a tour guide for Americans in Guadalajara and the one thing that pissed me and other people providing a service was the condesending atitudes in which they tried to treat us. I actually left 2 groups to fend for themselves after trying to humiliate me, because someone gave them an atitude for their "supposed" bad service. the leader of the group said that I needed to tend to their needs like NOW.

I have taken many friends with me to Mexico(first timers) who later continue to go back on their own as they have been taught(by me) on who manuever in Mexico. they have yet to ahve any problems and continue to go.
