Help ! ! Bringing a new G35 into Canada ~ Warrantee ???

I am about to purchase a new G35 in Washington State and bring it up to BC. Big savings. But I can't get any assurance about the warrantee. Infiniti US at their 1 - 800 number told me that if I register the car in Canada I lose all the warrantee. The dealer tells me that it is simply a matter of telling Infiniti Canada to add my new VIN number to their database. Of course the dealer stands to gain the sale.

Has anyone imported an Infiniti or know about the warrantee ???

It can be new, but it has to be 6 months on US soil. So basically... 6 months after it is registered. It can be registered to the dealership for 6 months and still be bought new.

Not true.

Reading the warrenty section in a 2007 Nissan owners manual, it clearly states the full factory warrenty is giving to the "first buyer" on a new vehicle, regardless where it is purchased and exported to the USA or Canada.
However the factory warrenty is voided if the vehicle is sold and exported within 6 months of ownership from the "first buyer".

A possibility exists that the seller (dealership) might be considered the "first buyer" Just something to be aware of and check with Infiniti or Nissan head office to confirm that you as the purchaser, are the "first buyer" of the vehicle in question.

I would get the confirmation of "first buyer" status from head office when receiving the confirmation letter of completed recall notice of the new vehicle purchased.

I talk about this with my local Nissan dealer(RedDeer) they said it must be registred in the US for 6 months prior to coming to Canada however they also told me they would not give warrnty to US cars because it hurts sales at thier stealership and they are too busy to accomadate people that bought thier cars in the US. Nissan RedDeer and Infiniti Edmonton even give me grief about buying parts beacuse the VIN does not show up in thier system. So talk to your local shop make sure they are willing to work on your car.

Interesting stuff. I can appreciate the negative potential impact of our currency on lost Canadian dealer sales to buyers in the US. The consumer can't be blamed for wanting the best possible pricing.

However, it's hard to understand how your local dealer can operate outside of the stated Infiniti policy. In Europe many manufacturers/dealers are being fined and have been forced to stop playing games with the consumer. We're still behind here in N. America.

Free trade seems to be more of a concept than a practice.

I just bought a 07 g35x from a very helpful dealer in Maine and hope to have the car by the end of the week. I live on the Maine/NB border and saved conservatively around $8500 CAN.

The Maine dealer spoke to Infiniti USA and told me the warranty is valid in Canada and the US. This thread has spooked me a bit though and I will call Infiniti myself early next week. FYI 1-800-662-6200. This 6 month thing is very confusing but I think that the dealer is not considered the first owner therefore the warranty is valid. I will post my findings when I figure it out.

New to G35Driver and just a note to say how much I enjoy and appreciate the help. Look forward to the new car and being part of the growing group of great owners.

I wonder if our local guru, Garnet Canuck can help us on this thread.

^welcome remsleep1. Good luck with your call and with the new car. It's certainly hard for Canadians to ignore the US for a new or used car purchase right now.

That's very true as I know one Infiniti stealership in Edmonton has told me point blank that they will not warranty any vehicle purchased in the USA, regardless what the head office says. The comment that stood out was the owner of the stealership doesn't want to lose his captive market and take money out of his pocket or his employees.

I've noticed that a lot of parts departments are asking for the VIN # now when purchasing parts. Even for a oil filter! I should gleam a USA VIN # and order a oil filter and see what happens Besides the US factory replacement parts are easier to locate and usually are cheaper to purchase.

Either way, purchasing a USA located vehicle is a gamble and just a bit frustrating for Canadian buyers. But if it was too easy, everyone would do it.

I actually grabbed a VIN off a used car on a lot in RedDeer turns out the guy that bought the car is now a member here but his car had the same options as mine so I use his VIN when ordering parts saves a ton of grief. But try a US VIN and see the whinning and complaining you get then if they find the part they think you owe them something because they were clever enough to find the part number for the Brembo brake pads sitting on thier shelf (done rant).

Been there and done that and the look on their faces was priceless when I didn't have the VIN # with me and just told them the part #. The poor WEN parts counter person was confused beyond reason. Had to find a old guy like me to figure it out.

That's very true, & something we'll see more of as the number of US cars registered here increases.
Just because it's warrantied, doesn't mean that a dealer HAS to do the work.
It's definitely something that has to be factored into the cost/value equation for importing.
