Daytime Running lights HELP !!

Hi gang,
I just imported a 2005 6mt from the states. It doesn't have the DRL option and I can't get through all the import stuff unless it is equiped with it. Any ideas of the best way to deal with this ? Is it a simple matter of buying the DRL module from Infinity and plugging it in ? Canadian tire sells a kit thing, however you need to hack into wires, etc. I'm a little worried about doing this as there are these big warnings under the hood about death, etc. if you don't disconnect the battery before changing the headlights !! Any options/advice would be greatly appreciated !!

Regards,

Rod.

don't forget, it is INFINITI with an I not a Y....

DRL eh... just turn it on yourself every time you drive....DOT code requirement?
That's a first...

Sorry couldn't provide more insight... welcome to the driver...

Talking Solved the problem !!

Hi Gang, thanks for the info and also the heads up on the "Y" thing....what was I thinking !!!!
Anyway, I found out that it wasn't as simple as plugging in a module. I guess that the wire harness, actual headlights, etc. are different from the Can and US model. What I ended up doing was doing the Canadian Tire kit thing. Actually was very simple. I tapped into the passenger side wire harness at the headlight (I pulled the inner fender to get at it.), tucked the module into the spot by the battery and wrapped the signal wire around my #1 coil. Works like a charm !!! Now that I have done one, I could prob do it in about 30 min or less. The kit was around $25 bucks at Canadian Tire. Pretty simple and cheap fix as any cars built after 1989 must have DRL in Canada. I wouldn't have been able to get the car licensed if it didn't have the DRL.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm really looking forward to getting my new baby all legal, on the road, and scaring a few Mustangs !!!

How can you tell where this "#1 Coil" you refer to is?
I might have to do the same thing soon.

Actually, I don't think that it needs to be #1 coil, any of them will do. The signal wire in the DRL module just needs to see some voltage (meaning the car is running) to turn on the lights. I wrapped it around a coil as this seemed to be the most logical place. I imagine that there are other places to get a signal from. Anyway, to answer your question... the coils are the little square things on top of the spark plugs.

Hope this helps !!

Wrapped it around a coil?? You mean no splicing? It gets the voltage just by being in proximity to voltage?? I'm confused (and obviously not an electrical genius).
