aftermarket pads causing noise...

hello guys,

i have posted this in another section G35 Coupe but for some reasons it got moved....

so here i am just looking for some knowledgable inputs from you guys.....

Sometimes when I hit the brake as i am turning my steering wheel slowly, there is this clanking sound coming from the front end.. at first i thought it was the compression rod that went busted.. but after serveral testing and careful listening.. now i am pretty sure it is the front brake system that is causing this sound..

i brought my car back to the dealer two times in past three months and both times they told me it is because i am usingthe aftermarket brake pads taht don't fit the caliper properly (i bought my 04 G35 auto used in May 2007.. so maybe the previous owner got it replaced with aftermarket pads i think...)... ..and they aint gonna do anything to it sinec its aftermarket parts...one of the service manager even claimed that sinec it is a brand new pad..the pad is too thick to fit in the caliper....all i need to do is to give it some time until the pads gets thinnner then the noise will be gone....i have also brought my car to a local car shop guy and he said it is nothing big deal..,

but i am still kidda worried here as this clanking sound is coming much more often lately....(almost everytime when i hit the brake while turningi the wheel...)...

i did a bit of search on my own on this website and some people mention about the "bed-in" procedure that needs to be done when the pads were first installed.. so i am wondering if this snoise has anything to do with the bed-in procedure that wasn't done properly at the time the pads were installed.. or its because of something esle???

and also.. .is there any ways to fix this problem now??

oh and just for the records, i have a 04 2004 G35 Coupe 5AT non-brembo brake

thank you guys in advance and any suggestions are greatly appreciated..

Do you get the noise when applying the brakes in a straight line?

I'm just wondering why it only occurs when you turn the wheel and apply the brakes?

Give Simone Performance a call and see what Vic has to say...http://www.simoneperformance.com/

that doesn't sound like it's from improper bed-in procedure. Inproper bed-in causes squeaking and uneven pad wears.

More like something could be loose... and is only affected when turning (different speed of the wheels.)

That's a hard one to diagnose without hearing it ourselves. It could be various brake parts, suspension components etc. Can't really understand why a thick pad makes a clanking sound when the wheel is turned and brake applied. It sounds more like the pads may be moving around (loose) rather than a problem with the thickness.

I would consider talking to someone else like Vic. You guys all seem to recommend him highly.

If it is confirmed the pads are the culprit get that junk off the car and get the correct parts. Clanking isn't good and shouldn't be tolerated on any car let alone a G.

I have a similar problem.

I cleaned my caliper and brake pads cause the dust build up was creating a lot of grinding noise...but when I put the pads back into calipers I hear a clank here and there. It's not that often just sometimes and I think the pads have some movement in the caliper.

Is there some way to adjust the pads in there so they don't move and stay tight?

They didn't clank before I cleaned them.

Only thing I can think is getting shims for the pads. Just looking at the EBC pads the REDS have no shims on the back but the GREENS have shims.. Hopefully I won't have any issues when I get this stuff installed next weekend.
