As a side note, do you guys just disconnect the negative terminal or actually pull the battery out? I am going to go about doing it this weekend but I imagine I would need to remove the plastic trim to gain access to pulling the battery out.
my underground park is pretty hot actually at least in 20 C. I guess it should be fine. $215 X 3-4 months savings is pretty damn good im not adding up the gas cost

I store my car in a shipping container. Its dry, clean and a about 10 inches off the ground so I ramp into it. I change the oil, fill up the gas tank, leave the parking brake off, disconnect the battery. I park it for five months and I start it once a month with the doors of the shipping container wide open of course and let it run for 20 mins enough for the thermostat to open and give the pedal a periodic rev.

Quick question, why would one leave the parking break off? Even if its a 6speed?

^brake may tend to seize (rust on the inside park brake drum) or in the line itself. Never a good idea to leave it on for a prolonged period.

Sorry to bring this back but I figured it'd be better than starting a new thread.

I'm looking into storing my car for the winter, trouble is it'd be outdoors on the driveway. I have a double garage home but due to the unique way the builder constructed the garage you can only get a Civic or something in it.

I found this: http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brows....jsp?locale=en

Could I get away with something like this? Maybe erect it over top of a tarp. Any other tips specific to storing a car outdoors? Should I scrap the whole idea and look into paying monthly for indoor storage?

Faisal, I would be concerned with the snow load and the effect of strong winds on that portable garage.

^^ I actually had to use one a portable garage, while the garage was getting constructed, you have to make sure it is secured to the ground, cause I though ours was secured enough and found the damn thing sitting accross the street on a windy day, about the snow load it handles it with no problems, I used it for a winter and than gave it away to my neighbour in the summer, he is actually still using it for his ATVs; it has been through quite a few big snow falls, one thing I did was use tapping screws on all the joints to make it more secured cause without them the frame felt really flimsy, hope this helps.

Well finally made a decision, found some storage for $75/month. Indoor, secure, gated.

Kick starting this thread again as I'm about to store my G and had a QQ. I'll be storing in a garage (non heated) and am wondering if I can get away with not removing or disconnecting the battery if I start it up every 2-3 weeks? If this will work how long should I let it run for?

So instead of giving a 10mm bolt two twists to unhook the negative cable you're going to go start the car every two weeks and let it run for 10 min

^Positive or negative? I've always just undone the negative cable and never had any problems

Sorry, you're correct always negative first and negative for storage.

I've been starting my car biweekly but it's starting to be a pain.

So disconnecting the battery will keep it alive? What are the downsides? I guess no alarm and losing radio settings?

Thanks
