Winter beater or better, suggestions?

Hi guys,
So, last night they closed the Hwy because of ice, wind, snow, whiteouts. I had to take the back roads. Icy, crap etc. I love the G but am thinking it's not worth taking the chance of someone hitting me or it sliding into something. I've got good snows, but it was a harry drive home. This is the second time it's happened this year. So, thinking about getting another car. The wife also has a country drive now as she got a move starting in Jan. She drives a van.
She'll get the new car. Thinking about used, but some of the lease deals look very good. ie 2008 vibe 48 mo. 300/mo and 9 grand buy back.
Any suggestions. Anyone out there releasing a vehicle that would do me?
Be safe out there.
Thanks

Sam why not get an older Honda, Toyata, or Nissan and throw some good snows on it. Your title suggests winter beater, thats what I would do, go for an older one, something you won't worry about, and don't have to put a lot of money in it.
If you look around they are there.

an old honda can even drive through snow deeper than the car is tall (well, a '91 accord can)
get an older car, like 2-3000$ or less, put the best snow tires you can on it (don't worry bout speed rating, ultragrip-ice are up there, very deep treads, very grippy), and have fun, a manual is probably better for control over grip.

My wife's '02 CR-V with AWD+(cheap)A/S rubber beats my G35 with RWD+(expensive)snow tires hands-down when the junk starts to fly.

Great if you're buying new... used ones are an arm & a leg.
They really hold their value.

Been there, did that for 19 years while the family was growing up. Went from my 69 MGB to a caravan to a grand caravan to the G.

03 ford focus 9 - 11 g
Used civics are really used and seem pricey. Gonna keep lookin. On the bright side, cold and dry today, loved the drive.

CR-Vs are only expensive in the GTA... get out to Ottawa or Kitchener or London and you'll get a better deal... or head to Quebec like I did (Hull) and get one for a steal!

I paid $14K for an '02 LX with 90K in great shape... only needed rear brakes and one engine mount replaced, $1.5K in repairs for $15.5K total.

That same ride in TO was $19K (private) and $23K (dealer)!
