Winter beater or better, suggestions?

Hi guys,
So, last night they closed the Hwy because of ice, wind, snow, whiteouts. I had to take the back roads. Icy, crap etc. I love the G but am thinking it's not worth taking the chance of someone hitting me or it sliding into something. I've got good snows, but it was a harry drive home. This is the second time it's happened this year. So, thinking about getting another car. The wife also has a country drive now as she got a move starting in Jan. She drives a van.
She'll get the new car. Thinking about used, but some of the lease deals look very good. ie 2008 vibe 48 mo. 300/mo and 9 grand buy back.
Any suggestions. Anyone out there releasing a vehicle that would do me?

Sam why not get an older Honda, Toyata, or Nissan and throw some good snows on it. Your title suggests winter beater, thats what I would do, go for an older one, something you won't worry about, and don't have to put a lot of money in it.
If you look around they are there.

an old honda can even drive through snow deeper than the car is tall (well, a '91 accord can)
get an older car, like 2-3000$ or less, put the best snow tires you can on it (don't worry bout speed rating, ultragrip-ice are up there, very deep treads, very grippy), and have fun, a manual is probably better for control over grip.

My wife's '02 CR-V with AWD+(cheap)A/S rubber beats my G35 with RWD+(expensive)snow tires hands-down when the junk starts to fly.

yeah wow.. i just looked up the crv on autotrader... lowest price for a old junky one was 9 grand..... damn

+1 they're incredibly expensive. Most used imports are.

Been there, did that for 19 years while the family was growing up. Went from my 69 MGB to a caravan to a grand caravan to the G.

Right you are.
Checked out 07 Ford Escape rental car 20 g's 42 k.
03 ford focus 9 - 11 g
Used civics are really used and seem pricey. Gonna keep lookin. On the bright side, cold and dry today, loved the drive.

CR-Vs are only expensive in the GTA... get out to Ottawa or Kitchener or London and you'll get a better deal... or head to Quebec like I did (Hull) and get one for a steal!

I paid $14K for an '02 LX with 90K in great shape... only needed rear brakes and one engine mount replaced, $1.5K in repairs for $15.5K total.

That same ride in TO was $19K (private) and $23K (dealer)!
