question about AAI-NIS install for 04 6mt coupe
Hey everyone,
I finally got my AAI-NIS to integrate my ipod to the car. I have searched the forums and have only found one decent link that explains how to install it.

this link is good and the write up is quite clear, but I was wondering if this is the same process for a 6MT coupe. The link above is for a auto transmission and I just wanted to make sure I wont run into any snags following these instructions. Also how hard is it to take apart the car to install this? after reading the write up it looks like it might be a little tricky to take apart some of the components. I am not that good with stuff like this, but I would prefer to do it my self to gain some experience. That being said I also don't want to damage my car. If this is a hard install can any one recommend a place to get this installed in the GTA for a decent price.
Thanks for all the help in advance.

Hey Prabu,
I have the same car as you ('04 6MT coupe) and used this link as well. Its very straightforward and I didn't have any problems. The only thing was a couple of the photos do skip over a step here and there, so while the instructions are great, you *sometimes* have to gather your facts based on a 'before and after' shot. A few screw placements are different from the photos used, but I suspect that's the auto/manual differences, but its not like (on the 1 or 2 times I guessed) I managed to unloosen the wrong thing.
The only piece of advice I would have is to really consider how you want to wire the unit itself, while the photos (again) show you where it goes, they don't really explain the best way to run the wires, down behind and through some of the holes between the centre console - there is NO space behind the console, so don’t even try to hide it there. Also once you’ve installed the unit’s cable, it will create quite a bulge with all the other cables already back there – you’re going to want to run it carefully a few times and don’t forget to think about how the cables bunch up as you put the console back, it plays a factor too.
I had to re-do my install, unplugging the wiring on the back of the centre console a few times (three I think) and run the wires again. The other issue you might have is that if you don’t run it right, the console could pinch your wiring against metal and you don't want that, it has be kind of be 'snaked through'. There’s a switch on the unit too – don’t forget to set that to the right setting, that was one of the three times I had to backtrack.
But other than that inconvenience at the midway point (the actual install of the unit and laying it in a good place) the rest is pretty straightforward. And I can’t stress this enough – as nasty as it might look – once you’ve installed the unit, just lay the centre console back in loosely and TEST IT, wire the battery back up and play your ipod. I know it mentions it in the steps, DON’T skip it. You’ll regret it later if you have problems.
The disassemble is a pain on '03-'04 since our centre console screws are covered by the driver & passenger side consoles. '05+ are lucky since the screws are accessible without that. That's the only reason our job takes longer. I would say the start is the longest, the install’s not too too bad (if you don’t have to backtrack like me) and the re-install is simply a reversal of all the steps you took to take it apart.
I think they say it takes 2 hours (??) to do, it took me about 4. Now, that's becuase I was being careful and took my time figuring it out. I'm like you and don't really do this alot. The only other thing I did was Grounding Wires on my own and that's it (30mins? Try 2 hrs for me
). Other than that, not a mechanic or anything.
My last piece of advice is really master the ‘gentle tug’ on pulling panels and parts off. Some of these clips are not easy. And the fear of breaking something might make you go too soft on some. The last thing you want is to get half way through the job and not be able to finish it. That’s about it. Good luck – I love mine.
Hey check out this accessory I picked up for over the Easter weekend, I love it and it goes great with the PAC setup. You’ll get tired of running if off the earphone output after a while, since while you select songs, it fiddles with the volume. Plus this holds it AND let’s you charge.
