$4k is crazy, $6.8k is certifiably insane. your dad best start shopping around because he's getting screwed if those are group insurance rates.

i pay ~$1500/ year in Vancouver (with high crime/collision rates), full-load insurance. granted i have a longer history, but nobody should be paying more than $3k for a G, unless it's modded to show-car level. $6k would be for an exotic, i would think, although the driver history plays a large part in setting premiums...i guess this is a lesson in what tact to take when considering contacting your insurance carrier.

Well my dad's rates are amazing, he pays like $280 for 2 cars under his name with 3 other secondary drivers under them. Its just my rates that are F&#*$&g ridiculous. I understand that once I turn 25 this Christmas my rates should come down, but after hearing these quotes, I am not too sure that even my age will make a difference. I am so bummed out right now . I am going to be calling a bunch of insurance companies on Monday to see what kind of rates I am looking at, and I will probably make my decision on keeping the car or not after.

As for the insurance company, I am with Meloche Monnex and have group insurance. I was paying about $4000 a year and now that will be going up to $6800 as I was quoted.

If I do switch insurance companies, and I don't make a claim with Meloche Monnex, do I have to report this to the new company?
Thanks for editing. Sorry to hear your situation. Like others have said insurance companies are pretty tough to deal with whenever you need them.

That is a pretty high rate to begin with. I don't know for sure about mentioning your claim with another company.

These guys SAVED MY LIFE (insurance rates wise). I'm 26 and pay F^%K ALL for the G and a camry, even less than Prabu's dad.

Try them out, I remember a thread in here somewhere about insurance companies in Canada. I remember the following being noted for good rates:

The personal (I vouch for their AWESOME rates and service)
TD meloche monnex
PC insurance

Just be aware that if you don't disclose this recent claimand you do get insurance through another company, if you make another claim with the new insurance company, the claim you didn't report will probably show up, which may be considered to be a material misrepresentation on the application for insurance, and coverage may be denied for the subsequent claim.

Thanks for the recommendation guys, I am going to call both "The Personal" and "PC Insurance" on Monday along with a few others to see what my rates will be like. I just have one question, since no one asked the insurance company to fix any damages, does it still constitute to being a claim? The reason I ask is when I call other insurance companies I can just say I never had any claims, thus avoiding material misrepresentation like Gilley had mentioned.

I think that sounds reasonable but I also don't know how the companies keep their records.

You need a group for The Personal no? I got some amazing rates from them using "City of Toronto", but the rates for a random credit union weren't as good....I guess it depends on your group. I don't seem to apply to anything, unless you know of a cheap way to get into a group that has excellent rates with The Personal.

What?! You mean "g35driver.com" isn't a sanctioned group with approved rates?

Damn.

I'm with PC Insurance. Got a decent rate. I say give them a call at least. At first, sometimes language was a slight problem (the calls get sent to India 99% of the time). But either I don't notice it any more, or the staff is getting better.
