Got a new tranny, clutch and flywheel

Hi everyone,

I just picked up my car after getting a new transmission done under warranty. The dealer also suggested I do the clutch and flywheel so I did. I opted to go with the stock clutch, but get the Nismo flywheel as it's half the price of the stock Infiniti dual mass one.

I have a 2003.5 6MT sedan and the transmission was getting rough and even grinding into 2nd sometimes. With this new transmission now I have to push down on the shifter to get it into 5th and 6th gear. The same thing I used to have to do only for reverse. I'm pretty sure this is not the desired effect but can anyone let me know if that's just how the new transmissions are, or is something wrong here.

I've read somewhere that the Nismo flywheel will be louder than the stock and it definitely seems that way to me. For anyone that has a Nismo/non-stock flywheel, is it supposed to be louder and how much louder?

Thanks.

something's wrong. you also got screwed by the dealer for the new clutch.

my '04 had a tranny replaced under warranty about 5 months ago. the new tranny functions like the old one, meaning gears 1-6 are a simple up/back shift. reverse is down and over to the right of 6th.

included with all warranty tranny replacements are the following: transmission assembly, clutch disc, throw-out bearing, release fork. basically the entire clutch/tranny assembly EXCEPT for a pressure plate and flywheel.

the reason they have to include a clutch disc is that the new tranny is a revised version that is not compatible with your old disc.

i had authorized my dealer to replace the clutch kit and pressure plate but when i picked up the car they said the clutch (and related parts) were included and, after inspection, my pressure plate was fine.

they tried to sell me on a new flywheel, but with only 58k kms on the car i deemed that not to be necessary...

Definitely does not sounds right, go back to the dealership and ask them to check again. Cause no matter what, you driving gears shouldnt shift like a reverse..

maybe the shifting plate is off after the tranny install? I've heard of a couple of cases where replacing the tranny caused the shifting to be off.

Hehe, thanks guys.

Yeah I called the dealer and they said it's a small adjustment.

canucklehead: Yeah, I didn't pay for the actual clutch disk as it comes with the tranny. Flywheel and other misc. parts were on my tab.

kingrukus: I got it done at Doner up in Newmarket. The service manager Frank is a great guy to deal with. He's helped me out with this as well as getting all four of my doors replaced last year. One thing to note though, I waited almost 4 weeks to get the Nismo flywheel. Just an FYI.

Any thoughts on the flywheel noise guys? Normal to be louder?

Thanks

i'm pretty sure it will be louder. just remember from previous threads people did complain about chatter. i tried looking up the nismo but i only found threads regarding the JWT. one person claimed his car sounded like a 'cement mixer' under 2,500 rpm.
