Maunal Transmission Oil = Quaker STATE WTF
Today I went into my dealer to pick up oil for my Manual Tranny and Rear Dif and I got charged $88.22 CAD.
Paid for the oil first before they brought it out to me and I got 3 bottles of Quaker State 75w90 and 2 bottles of Penzoil oil for the Rear. So now I am stuck with oil I'm sure I could of bought at a local car shop or even Canadian Tire for cheaper and if I refund the oil they will charge 20% restocking fee as stated on the receipt. This is BS.
I asked the guy should I not be getting genuine Nissan Oil and he stated that no dealer in Canada uses them anymore and that this is good enough for the car.
Is this true that all dealers are using Quaker State and Penzoil oil for the Rear?
This took place at Markham Infiniti.

After looking at the owners manual online it states
"Manual Transmission Gear Oil
Genuine Nissan Manual Transmission Fluit (MTF)
HQ Multi 75W-85 or API GL-4, Viscosity SAE 75W-85 or 75w-90"
This means our car DOES NOT REQUIRE the Nissan Manual Tranny Oil. It is a must only for the Automatic Transmissions only or your warranty will be void.
Now I still need to go back and ask why they game me GL-5 oil and not GL-4 oil.
For those people who have had their oil changed by the dealer can you check your invoice and see what type of oil they have listed?

Believe it or not but you can use GL-5 gear oil for the transmission and rear diff, if you like. The biggest thing about a GL-5 oil for the manual transmission, is to make sure it's "yellow metal" compatible. It usually just means that there is no sulphur present or added to the gear oil. Most GL-5 gear oils are backwards compatible to a GL-4 rating.
Myself personally, I use Shell's full synthetic GL-5 75-90W Spirax gear oil in the transmission, rear, and in the trucks differentials, as well.

Tranny Oil states that it must be GL-4 on Page 9 and I got GL-5 which is the QUAKER STATE bottle.
