The reason is because the garden hose to too weak to remove most of the loose sand/grit/residue off the car during the initial spray down. If the sand is still present on the surface of the car, by dragging the wet wash mitt or sponge over the surface, you could unknowingly increase/accumulate more scratches into your clearcoat, which you will later find when drying the car. Just make sure you set the pressure washer nozzle to a gentler spray (i.e. low to medium setting). Do not use the strong jet stream setting to avoid paint damage. The pressure washer also works well for cleaning under the wheel wells and the underside of the car.

Pressure washers are a waste of time. Fun to use at first but no so fun when you realize you wasted your time setting up and spraying only to find out you need to wash again by hand to really get it clean. At least in the NE they still leave a dirty film on the car. However ... in closing .. I find the best wash to be the two mitt opposite gender wash.

I use the pressure washer to spray the car down, then hand wash with a clean sponge and car wash detergent, and then rinse down with the pressure washer again. I didn't say that I only use the pressure washer without hand washing the car.

Regarding the pic method, make sure she doesn't have any body piercings. Otherwise, your paint will get royally screwed. No pun intended.

That's how I been washing my car for the last 5 years or so and i never had any issues just have to be careful not to get to close to the paint + the amount of water you save compared to a hose makes it worthwhile IMO.

Can't see any other way I would wash my car, besides the pic above

On a semi related side note:

Be Careful - A 'heads up' for those men who may be regular Home Depot
customers.

Over the last month I became a victim of a clever scam while out shopping.
Simply going out to get supplies has turned out to be quite traumatic.
Don't be naive enough to think it couldn't happen to you or your friends.

Here's how the scam works:

Two very hot 20-21 year-old girls come over to your car as you are packing your shopping into the trunk. They both start wiping your windshield with
a rag and Windex, with their breasts almost falling out of their skimpy
T-shirts. It is impossible not to look.

When you thank them and offer them a tip, they say 'No' and instead ask
you for a ride to Lowes. You agree and they get in the backseat. On the
way, they start undressing. Then one of them climbs over into the front
seat and starts crawling all over you, while the other one steals your
wallet.

I had my wallet stolen June 4th, 9th, 10th, twice on the 15th, 17th, 20th,
24th & 29th.

Also July 1st, 4th, twice on the 8th, 16th, 23rd, 26th, 30th, three times
last Saturday and very likely again this upcoming weekend.

So tell your friends to be careful.

P.S. Walmart has wallets on sale 2.99 each.
