Springs or Coilovers??? Please help..
I recently purchased a 2006 G35 coupe and I have been thinking about lowering the vehicle. I spoke to my mechanic and he suggested I purchase springs instead of coilovers as it would be a waste of money if I drive the car in the winter.. I am hoping someone can provide me with some additional info in letting me know what are the best springs for the street?? To be honest I am a bit confused and I am hoping for some direction.. Any comments?
if you get springs, you might wanna think about getting shocks because the OEM ones arent going to support springs for more than a year. But as your mechanic says: if you drive it year around you would probably avoid coilovers...why?
1) most aftermarket coilovers are only rated around minus 4 degrees celcius, they won't be recommend for harsh canadian winters.
2) the salt used for roads has the nack for ceasing coilovers (meaning if salt clutters your coilover threads, you cant adjust them anymore)
BUT
if you want to, you can run your coilovers through winter, Im sure many people have done this before (including me, not on the G though). To get through the winter you must make sure you use lithium grease to keep your threads lubricated on a regular basis. And you have to probably wash every week to ensure the salt doesnt enter the coilover.

kos52 - I am in the same dilemma however I think I will end up getting Tein Basics (Had no complaints when I had them on my old car)
Plus the ease of being able to lower and raise it.
Question for the experienced - If you get for example Tein basics lower it + camber kit and then decide to raise it for the winter what happens with the camber? Would you need to get/adjust camber again when summer comes around?
So then for an easy 1 inch drop would the 350Z springs be the best fit since I will leave the OEM shocks?

Many have done this. You won't get the best performance and your oem struts will wear out faster but it can be done.

I prefer my Tein basic right now...
I would go with an aftermarket spring/strut setup for durability against salt/snow/etc. I have seen various coilovers die quite often after 1 hard winter, and need to be rebuilt. If we lived a so-cal type environment or if you car isn't winter driven , then coilovers would definitely be my first pick.
