Oil and filters are in, time for some DIY!!!

Enough stuff to change oil and cabin filters on the G and Mrs. Swivel's SUV, plus change my diff oil and new spark plugs for the Expedition. Still awaiting another small package. More on that later.

BTW, local guys, if you want to change out your diff oil, you can borrow my pump, I'm sure it'll make the job loads easier.

DIYs if and when I get around to it.

EDIT:

I changed the cabin air filter according to the excellent video instructions posted by Bythabay. Watch here if you want, I won't embed for now:

It was about a ten-minute job, but it was good to know where all the fasteners were and in which order to take things apart. One thing I did a little different, and in accordance with a warning that came with the filter, was NOT to disconnect the yellow airbag connector. The filter will slide in okay around it anyway, if you hold your mouth just right:

Old vs. new. Yeah, it was due for a change!

I also changed oil today; switched from amsoil ASL 5W30 to the Signature 0W30, which is an even better oil but I did it mostly for reasons of simplicity. I can run the same oil in both the G and Mrs. Swivel's Ford Expedition. I also went with the larger Maxima-size filter, here's the comparison with the old Wix unit:

To my eye, that looks like at least 30% more filter, and for the same price, why not?

I replaced the crush washer, though the old one looked perfectly okay. They are cheap and I bought about ten last time I was at Nissan. The one in teh middle came with a Nissan filter, and is a little different, I dunno why. I decided to use it.

So here's the bigger filter on the car. as you can see, no clearance issues whatsover:

And then of course I filled her up with exactly five quarts of the good stuff!!

I may not get around to the diff oil change today, maybe next weekend. Time to go out and have some fun in the sun with my kids!!

Looking forward to hearing your post DIY. I'm curious if your diff fluid has been changed the condition, and what's on your magnet.

Doubt I'll get to it this weekend, maybe the Easter weekend.

I'm sorry. Yes we are talking about the same place. My G is Filthy as well! I didn't nail down a time yet. What time would you be interested in? The forecast looks better for at least 5 days and I can't stand looking at it like this anymore!

Wayne, Karen and I are thinking very seriously of going on a G trip for the month of June. I have to make stops in Saskatoon, Moose Jaw, Lafleche, Unity, Calgary (to see you if you are around) Strathmore, and ending at Vernon,BC.
On our return I was going to visit friends in Minnesota and Michigan.

So I have been trying get everything together and figure out if we can do it.

There are two places (at least) in DG, one near the casino and one near McD's.

Time? Dunno, got a houseful right now...shoot me a PM when you're leaving and I'll see if I can meet you.

Ian, thanks for the title change!!
