yikes, i guess not worrying about this is one advantage of west-coast living. i'm not even sure if my G has a block heater - never checked. i'm sure i spend the equivalent money on our high fuel prices as you guys do on undercoating, so it all evens out in the end.

Isn't there salt in the air from the ocean? Or you don't live that close?

^ ha ha. yes i do live ~1 min drive from the ocean, but salty air does not seem to pose much of a corrosion risk to vehicles in the last 10 years. most cars <12yrs here don't show rust. the older cars have problems, especially Japanese cars that haven't been cared for, but if you're driving a 20yr old car i think that is to be expected.

the best method out here is weekly washes, and seasonal waxing/protectant. Vancity does use road salt on icy days so that is a problem. thank god it rarely happens.

Ah I see... interesting to know. I'd still encounter the snow if I lived out there... I'd be going up to Whistler weekly

I just made an appointment at Rust Check to get my old 1997 GMC Z71 it's yearly Rust Check application for next Friday.

I also inquired about getting the undercarriage done with Rust Check Coat and Protect on my FX35. That application is only going to cost me $40.

im still a bit hesitant to do rust protection.

1-my car is 2003, never winter driven
2-never seen visible rust, again never looked under my car.
3-why do they have to drill holes, do all cars go under drilling ,i dont want my G to lose her virginity by drills kidding

im not asking because im cheap, just want to know if this is necessary, im gonna hibernate my car on november again.

Mustafa, they drill to get inside all the panels where the rust could start.

Did mine last Mayish. Also didn't want the holes, but decided that I'd buy out the lease and keep the G for a long while so it would be worth it. $120 yearly doesn't buy a lot of body work. Messy for a while, parked it on boxboard in the driveway for about a week. I even had my winter beater done because it was starting to show some rust spots. The Crown will retard the progress of existing rust as well.
Musti82, yours sounds like a better candidate than mine was. Lucky guy.

Great price for the undercarriage Wayne. Did you tell us why not the whole car?

Good idea Sam to get your cars done. I have not done my whole vehicle because I think with todays cars it is not necessary unless you plan on keeping the vehicle at least 6 years. I am doing the undercarriage since it is bombarded with salt etc in our unfriendly winter weather and I feel it can use the extra protection.

Alright, here are some pics that I promised... was going to get them done while it was bright outside but I didn't make it home on time. Super long exposure on the pics because I didn't use the flash thus some parts of the pics look overexposed.

Close up of the plug on the trunk:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/tosasha/3911572968/" title="DSC_1496 by D40Shooter2008, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3426/3911572968_618d64dc54.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="DSC_1496" /></a>

Another short of the trunk:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/tosasha/3910791813/" title="DSC_1497 by D40Shooter2008, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2447/3910791813_9dde067a2c.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="DSC_1497" /></a>

I made a mistake when I said that they drilled the back fender from the trunk area, there is nothing there, can't drill it because it's one layer of metal with the inside being in the trunk compartment and so you wouldn't want them spraying your trunk:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/tosasha/3911575290/" title="DSC_1500 by D40Shooter2008, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2570/3911575290_368583f600.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="DSC_1500" /></a>

Engine bay:

Driver door:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/tosasha/3911576230/" title="DSC_1501 by D40Shooter2008, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2585/3911576230_29a5d1c4f4.jpg" width="333" height="500" alt="DSC_1501" /></a>

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/tosasha/3911577164/" title="DSC_1499-1 by D40Shooter2008, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2675/3911577164_a36f5cf9e0.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="DSC_1499-1" /></a>

There were puddles around my car the day the rust protection was done, but now it's just very slow dripping. Probably going to last for awhile. Going to wash the car tomorrow because don't like the oil paint.

Nice pics!

Thanks for taking the time to upload and show us.

I guess the holes don't look so bad after they're plugged.

I'm going to ask them before hand exactly where they are going to be drilling holes. If I remember the G35 Coupe diagram they showed me while I was there last week of where they would be drilling, I only recall one hole going into the door, one hole going into the front fender from where the door hinges are, and one hole on the door frame towards the rear panel. Not sure about the trunk area. All I remember was I kept telling myself, okay... 3 holes per side... not bad!

I just finished stripping the entire trunk and I also removed my Engine Cover and Battery Cover, to make it easier for them to just spray the areas they need to, without them having to remove anything. I'm also goning to bring my bag of tools and probably take out the rear tail lights in their parking lot before my appointment.

I hope everything goes well tomorrow.

It’s funny how we worry about our cars so much. I'm sure it will all be fine; there are some really really expensive cars that end up getting this done. In any case, let us know how it went.
